Mount Chimaera, Kemer Overview

Known for constantly burning fires and the myth of the monster Chimera, Mount Chimaera, also known as Yanartaş, is a mountain in the Antalya province of Turkey. A short walk from Cirali, this area is known to have lit the Olympic fire for the first time. Moreover, it has a permanent fire due to the emission of methane and other gasses created by the cracks in a natural gas reservoir that reaches the earth's surface.

You can hike traversing through the beautiful forests to see the eternal flames. The hike to the mountain is 45 minutes long, and from the top, you can see the Mediterranean Sea and the Taurus Mountains. The area surrounding the fire was considered sacred and home to the mythical creature Chimera. Just 100 meters from the fire lies the ruins of the ancient temple of Hephaestus, the chief god of Olympus. Situated at the top of the hill, today, Mount Chimaera is a popular tourist destination and a natural monument.
