HOTA (Home of the Arts), Gold Coast Overview
HOTA (Home of the Arts) is a 17-hectare cultural precinct on Evandale Lake in Surfers Paradise, home to the striking multi-colored HOTA Gallery, a 1,139-seat theatre, a cinema, and the Outdoor Stage, one of Australia's busiest concert venues. The Outdoor Stage has hosted sold-out shows by Tim Minchin and, in November 2024, a record 4,300-capacity crowd for The Kid Laroi. With over 780,000 visitors and 1,000+ events a year, it is Gold Coast's cultural heartbeat.
HOTA traces back to the 1976 Evandale Civic and Cultural Centre and was reborn under its current name in 2018 after an ARM Architecture and TOPOTEK 1 redevelopment. HOTA Gallery, opened 8 May 2021, houses the $32 million City Collection across six levels and more than 2,000 square meters of exhibition space behind its signature stained-glass-style colored facade. The $37.5 million Outdoor Stage opened in March 2018 and has grown from a 3,372-capacity debut (Tim Minchin) to a 4,300-strong sold-out record set by The Kid Laroi in November 2024. The precinct also has Theatre 1, Theatre 2, HOTA Cinema, a sculpture walk, and dining including Palette Restaurant, plus a pedestrian bridge to Chevron Island.
