National Museum and House of Culture, Dar-Es-Salaam Overview

The National Museum and House of Culture, located on Shaban Robert Street, is Tanzania's main museum. It's made up of five Tanzanian museums working together. Their main job is to save and display things about Tanzania's history and nature so that people can learn about Tanzanian culture and life.

Some important things you can see there include the bones of Paranthropus boisei, found by Louis Leakey at Olduvai, which tell us a lot about ancient humans. There's also a special section about the historic city-state of Kilwa and displays about Tanzania during its time under German and British rule, as well as ancient Chinese pottery. They also have collections showing how different groups of people live in Tanzania. Over time, four more museums joined, making the experience even better. With helpful info cards next to each display, visitors can easily learn about Tanzania's past and present.
