Nakuleshwar Temple

Nakuleshwar Temple, Chaukori Overview

Always wanted to see something similar to the Khajuraho, minus the openly loving sculptures? This one is your best bet. The Nakuleshwar Temple, unlike many Uttaranchali temples, does not take after the popular Kumaoni style of architecture, with the elaborately carved wooden gates and such.

This temple takes extensively from the Khajuro carvings, that focus on the voluptousness of the physical form and aesthetics, and of recording the body in action, immortaising them in stone. The really imposing figures of Hindu mythology worshipped extensively in the region are in the form of 38 statuettes here.
