Disappointing and overpriced

Swimming pool was very nice, the person who was helping around at the pool was doing his work very well. We also appreciated the job done by the restaurant manager, Vimal Kumar, clearly has a background in hospitality.

We had issues starting from the check in, when we had to insist to get the cottage that we booked. The male manager who was assisting was extremely arrogant and unprofessional, he cant be in hospitality business. Everything took time, from requests for a new towel till water refill. New towels were dirty, as if they were not washed but just sprayed and ironed. Bed linen was not changed daily as they claim and the cleaning, in general, was not done properly and always at odd times. Vegetarian food only was healthy but boring unfortunately, and so overpriced for what they serve. Yoga was chargeable. The property doesnt have private beach. Our sleep was disturbed multiple times by other guests who decided to have a party at 12 am. We raised the issue but it was never addressed. Very careless of the staff. In general, Somatheeram caters to foreigners who never visited India before and have no idea of the food, culture, hospitality, prices, etc. I wonder how this place got the rating that it has on this website.

Over smart Staff, not the best resort if you are an Indian

The treatments and the food was excellent! Service staff was very courteous & amicable.

The reception staff thinks they are over smart. They sold my room to somebody else and put me in a lower category room in a different resort. Overall, they see success with foreign travelers and hence take Indians for granted.

The treatments were great- the staff well trained and professional. I really enjoyed the veg meal buffets, but my husband found the food rather tasteless as it lacked spice. Catered more for a European taste probably.

The location was a bit out of the way for us and the beach wasnt very nice.

Relaxing stay and beautiful settings

Great place and wonderful setting with very friendly and helpful staff. The staff helped us and supported us in our request and were very fast and efficient in arranging cars and excursions. Nice breakfast spread.

Wi-fi was a bit spotty. Unfortunately we requested months in advance two rooms with sea view but they were not able to accommodate when we arrived. After much discussion we got the rooms we requested but far from each other. The bed came a bit apart (2 single beds pushed together).

Very good

Relaxing stay in a beautiful setting.

It was a lovely stay in a beautiful setting - the huts were cool and quiet. The room was extremely comfortable and the staff were very accomodating. It was an incredibly relaxing place to stay.

I didn't realise that most people staying would be apart of a Ayervedic treatment stay (2-3 weeks). We only stayed 2 nights thinking it would be a normal resort, but we still enjoyed it.

Kind and knowledgeable staff. Great Doctors. All around, great service. I will definitely come back.

Outside each room, the seating area could have a ceiling fan to help with mosquitos.

Read this before you book !

If you think this is a hotel... DON'T GO THERE! It is a "luxury" (read til the end) Ayurvedic HOSPITAL. By booking on Booking.com, we logically thought we were dealing with a hotel. What a surprise when we arrived. They call us "patient" and they want us to sign a document including a whole set of obligations including compulsory consultations with a doctor and food program. We obviously refused. The presence of this establishment on the Booking.com site is therefore largely misleading and plays on misunderstanding. Especially since during our entire trip to India, he was the only one who debited the entire amount beforehand without the possibility of cancellation. The breach of trust with the establishment was immediate. If you go there knowing because you look for AYURVEDA retreat in a HOSPITAL ... Treatment IS NOT included in your booking price. The place is beautiful, magical and the staff lovely. Food level : if you are not in a therapeutic approach, it totally lacks flavor. The establishment does not contain a bar, impossible to share a friendly moment over a drink. No smoking area (this is why you ll see the staff run to the beach to smoke. Hypocrisis situation) . Always controlled when you go outside the hotel. We met some other guests having the same feeling to be in jail. Our air conditioning broke on the first day. The fridge broke on the second day. Noise level, the Village Church 100m away will wake you up every day at 5:30 am. The songs and prayers last a good hour and are broadcast through loudspeakers. Every day, at least 1 hour of mower and engine noise for the maintenance of the park, 5m from the swimming pool. Forget the idea of "luxury and silent retreat". Our room was not cleaned the first 2 days. The clientele is mainly elderly and single people, in treatment. The hotel charges you for its shuttles at double the price of what you can get via taxi. If you like animals, don't go there.

Superb

We thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to be back. It was very relaxing.

The restaurant staff (we used the Ayur Soma facilities for meals) were extra helpful and very friendly. The location and view from the sea facing cottages are wonderful.

The cottage rooms could be done up a bit better - compared to the Ayur Soma rooms they are a bit older.
