This was hands down the best experience of our whole India trip in the South! We met Jose first through staying at his homestay and he was incredibly hospitable and kind, chatting with us and giving us heaps of advice! This is Jose's own Houseboat that he booked and arranged for us and the whole experience was just incredible. The boat itself is a great size as it gives you the privacy you need for a couple staying overnight and it also allowed us to travel through narrower waters where they weren't any other tourists!! The backwaters were so beautiful and we had so much fun enjoying the view and the boat. The room in the boat is super clean, well maintained and there is even hot water and an AC machine!! This was luxury for us haha but it was super nice and we would highly recommend staying here. As well as this, the captain and the cook were also on board and they were the friendliest and kindest people ever! The captain talked away with me as I had endless questions and the chef is such a great funny guy, and showed us all these exercises and we even went for a swim with him! Also the food that we got served on the boat for breakfast, lunch and dinner (and also snacks) were AMAZING and traditional kerala style! It was all SOO YUMMY and me and my boyfriend were super satisfied Overall, Jose was the best host and this Houseboat experience was our best experience so far in the South. Thankyou Jose for everything!!

Beautiful getaway

Joses homestay is a peaceful and welcoming property in the quiet backstreets of Alleppey, Jose and the staff who work there are all incredibly helpful and make you feel at home. The room was top notch, spacious, comfortable and clean ! We also went on a half day backwater boat cruise organised by the host, this was a surreal experience, including a delicious breakfast and lunch . Highly recommend kalappura homestay to anyone visiting Alleppey

We had a really peaceful night on the houseboat, after a relaxing cruise through the quiet backwaters of Alleppey, which gave us an interesting glimpse into life on the waters as well. The room was spotless and comfortable, and our meals were of the highest quality. Would recommend this experience to anyone especially those seeking some privacy.

Excellent overnight experience and amazing food

The house boat was excellent and our captain Joseph and chef Mr Jain were very hospitable and provided us with an amazing experience. The food we had was amazing and very authentic Kerala food. The boat ride among the backwaters was peaceful and serene. Having AC in the bedroom was a plus and helped with a peaceful nights sleep. The boat, bedroom and bathrooms were clean and had running hot water in the bathroom. The boat was docked in a village overnight with other houseboats nearby and we could go out and roam the village during sunrise and sunset. The views for sunrise and sunset were amazing. Do not miss this experience if youre in Allepeey and love fish and Kerala food.

Unforgettable houseboat trip

Staying here was the best part of our 3 week trip. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The bedroom and bathroom were very comfortable and it was lovely to have fresh flowers in the bedroom. We loved relaxing on the loungers and other seats in the open area and viewing all the boats, wildlife and locals in the backwaters. We enjoyed mooring up overnight in a quiet location. The driver and chef were friendly and helpful - we couldnt have had a better time.

A perfect trip on the backwaters.

Boat was well maintained and the bedroom was clean and air conditioned. The food was delicious and the chef catered to any preferences and needs. We felt very comfortable and safe.

This tour was organised for us by the host of our homestay. The itinerary seems quite flexible, with the host asking what specifically we wanted to get from the tour. Our programme consisted of transport via Auto to the boat, breakfast on a houseboat with a roughly 3 hour sail through the backwaters, an hour long walking tour of a small village on the water, a meal at one of the residents house, and a roughly 3 hour canoe trip with the village guide. You will then need to take the government ferry back to Alleppey (roughly 45 mins). The scenery was amazing, the food was home cooked and tasty, and we got to visit an area of the backwaters we would not have otherwise seen. We would highly recommend this tour if you want to see the backwaters in just one day.

This small houseboat and intimate service was perfect.

The food in general, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast were magnificent. Our cook was amazing. Lunch was especially wonderful, served on banana leaves we stopped to cut and made by him in his compact kitchen at the back of the boat. His banana curry was the best I have ever tasted, not to leave out his beetroot pickle, mango chutney, Kerala Fish dish, coconut curry, ....too many to list. Our captain was super lovely as was our host Jose, who took his time to welcome us, get us settled and met us on our return the next morning. The best part about this boat was that it was just us. Nothing flashy but just perfect. I highly recommend a one bedroom houseboat for privacy and the pure calm of the water ways surrounding you. Also, this smaller houseboat is able to slip into the narrower canals, enabling you access to the smaller lake and less populated canals. We cannot rate this company and team highly enough.
