Hotel Indigo Shanghai On The Bund, an IHG Hotel

The hotel itself is showing its age not only in the dated general design but in key maintenance areas. Some features in the room did not work correctly or at all, including the TV with staticky sound and image that kept freezing up, making it impossible to use along with one of the two international channels that did not work at all, telephone in room would not hold a charge, light in dressing area kept falling down from the ceiling, years of accumulated dirt in difficult to clean areas including mold in the bathroom, windows that whistle when it is windy making it difficult to sleep, a heating unit that made a lot of noise for little output. The staff does not offer any information upon checking in and there is absolutely no useful information about the property such as how to get around the area including where to get food, room service and restaurant hours which seemed to change depending on who I had the fortune or misfortune of speaking with. However, the main problem is the general lackadaisical attitude from the front facing staff. Other than the manager downstairs, the entire staff has no concept of the meaning of hospitality or customer service. The staff is not at even remotely interested in helping guests with anything, including luggage, opening doors, greeting guests or anything that one would consider part of a normal job description when working in the hospitality industry. On the other hand, the housekeeping and other staff that you dont generally interact with were more than willing to try and do their best to help me when the need arose, even with the language barrier. The language barrier, made every interaction with front facing staff painfully slow, inefficient and frustrating.
