The property is well kept!

I did not feel welcomed here at all! The staff went out of their way to make my friend and I feel like we did not belong. I wish I would have never booked this place!

Very good hotel with excellent staff

Out of everywhere we stayed in Sri Lanka, the rooms here were the best. We were on the 7th floor and the room was very spacious, very comfortable beds and a wonderful view over the ocean to watch the sunset. Rooms also came with an iron and ironing board which was a plus. On the whole, the staff were very very nice and went above an beyond to make our stay enjoyable. On this I need to mention two people in particular, Roshan who had initially helped us to the room with our luggage, we met him several times during our stay and always smiling, happy and able to provide good advice on the local area and also Aslam in the the restaurant, very friendly and helpful, he even went to get my wife some kurd when she had eaten food too spicy for her. Both are a credit to the hotel and made our stay more enjoyable. Thanks to both! The general inside of the hotel is very nice with a lot of wooden decorations (many along the elephant theme) and nice paintings on the walls. Overall the grounds of the hotel were also well kept with the chance to also spot a wild Peacock or two! The food overall was quite good and of a better standard than many places we had stayed.

To be honest, one of the few things I believe could have been improved was the night time entertainment. On some nights there was a live singer which was good however on others there was a DJ that i felt was playing overly dancy music for a hotel. It was crying out for some good music to go up and have fun dancing to but sadly very few songs were of that type. We did ask for the music to be altered on the first night which lasted arou d 15 minutes. Unfortunately the 'private beach' was a little bit of a let down. In most beach hotels we have stayed, the area of water i front was cordoned off to allow hotel guests peace to swim. Here this was not the case and you have several dive and other boats parking in front of the sun loungers. This also brought with it the regular smell of petrol fumes. I would however point out that none of the above would prevent is returning to an overall excellent hotel.

The room and staff are fantastic but do not eat here.

The room was fantastic and is why we chose the hotel. The views were awesome and the bed very comfortable. The staff are truly exceptional and deserve the highest praise.

The food was awful!! Breakfast was buffet style which is fine but the actual food was very average. The room where it was served was a little dark and so crowded we had to wait for a table and it felt like all the tables were too close together. The room service menu was also terrible. Few decent options and even fewer for my partner who is vegan. When we eventually ordered food to the room, it arrived cold.

amazing location with access to the beach. the view from the room is mind blowing. huge property with fantastic amenities. the staff is very hospitable. food and drinks were great. would surely recommend this property for any travellers visiting unawatuna

This place is GORGEOUS! The wood work detailing is beautiful!! We enjoyed the spa, pools, beach, location and staff!! There was a small issue with payment, but it was squared up. I spent my bday there and the staff gave me 2 cakes and left a beautiful Happy Birthday message on my bed made of palm leaves. Loved this place!!!

The only thing I didnt like was how pushy the guy in the on-site jewellery store was.

Superb Service by the Sea

Araliya Resort sits an a beautiful piece of property. Lots of plants and manicured lawns. The inside matches the outside with its open-air registration desk. The elegant decor and design, spacious pool/beach area, and rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows create quiet drama and serenity to the experience. The customer service almost surpasses the level of service at a 5-star hotel. Staff were arduous in knowing names, birthdays, and being present to assist with anything. They noted my niece's birthday from her passport and presented a cake in the dining room, complete with an entourage of singers. It was touching.

Unfortunately, I did have a very negative experience with cocktails purchased at the Infinity pool. The mixed drinks caused my mouth to become inflamed and painful. I researched the cause and found out pineapples contain high levels of an enzyme (bromelain) which breaks down the protein in skin. The drinks had blenderized pieces of pineapple core (has a higher bromelain concentration than the juice) instead of juice. I told an individual on the management team, hoping they would recover the situation. I was surprised when all I got was an apology. A refund of the drinks charged was not offered nor any other gesture to try to turn this around. Unfortunately, I had to give a less than perfect review score. However, I would still recommend Araliya Resort to others with a caveat to not order drinks with pineapple juice in the recipe.
