Great location, very unclean and mould in the bathroom.

The hotel is in a great location, you can walk to pretty much everywhere in Edinburgh which was great. Just down the street from the main Christmas market and the train station. The pool was very nice as well.

The room was quite dirty, the bathroom bin was not emptied, marks all over the bed and cushions, crack under the door so you can see light and hear noise. No bath in our room even though the bath is shown in all pictures and very bad mould in the shower which I am baffled that they were okay letting guests stay in a mouldy room as it is a pricey hotel. There was also no towels at the pool, you had to go to reception to get a set of towels. I let them know about this and they offered a discount on our next stay but that really doesnt make up for us paying full price for this very unclean room.

Lovely stay for Hogmanay

We had a lovely stay for our proposal/engagement over Hogmanay. When we arrived in the room we had prosecco, chocolates, and rose petals waiting to help us celebrate. The Duplex Suite was stunning to stay in with plenty of space and all the facilities we needed, it certainly didn't feel like we were staying in a hotel room for the 4 nights we were there. Breakfast each morning was delicious and it was nice to have a menu plus the choice of continental (or both for the extra hungry mornings), and the service was good with the expected slower service on the busier mornings around the weekend and new years celebrations. The dinner was also lovely which we stayed in for one of the nights of our stay, and the bar had plenty of choice of beers and cocktails for a nightcap on the way back to the room. The spa facilities were great, the pool is a very good size for a spa and it wasn't very busy even when the hotel was. The sauna and steam room were small but again, not an issue as it didn't get busy while we there there and there were complimentary towels, shampoos, shower gels etc so we just needed to bring our swim suits. We had a back, neck, and shoulder massage in the duet room which was a nice way to relax together as a couple. The staff were all lovely. We had a mix up during check in but after making them aware they honestly couldn't have done much more to make up for it which only added to our stay, turning what was initially a negative into a positive with their great service. Thank you to Katrina & David for all their help during our stay!

The room air con kept resetting to 25 degrees which caught us out on the first night after coming back to the room. The mix up on check in could have been avoided but we felt they couldn't have tried any harder to make up for it.

A fine stay - but perhaps not great value

Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Offered us a free drink as a result of our room not being ready. Gave us plenty of useful advice on how best to spend our time in Edinburgh. Brilliant location.

There was a leak in the shower. This didn't cause any issue to the shower but made a constant sound which was sometimes annoying. There was some mould in the shower walls and floor. Bathroom look like it hadn't had a deep clean for a while. Spa facilities were fine, but not quite as glamorous as they look in the pictures. The doors are not very soundproof. You can hear a lot of activity from the hallways.

Breakfast service and food, food a bit cold or overdone sour dough toast, however, the food was nice with a varied menu of continental offerings were good.

Apex Waterloo will be "The Hotel" for us if we travel to Edinburg again.

The room size is great for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. The hotel location is a selling point with walking distance to most attractions. My kids were very happy with the breakfast options. Grateful that there are facilities, e.g. swimming pool and gym, in the hotel, which gave us an activity option when the weather was not favourable for sightseeing.
