Rameshwaram is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga pilgrimage destinations and one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites in India. To experience the complete traditional pilgrimage rituals, the following sequence is recommended.

• After your early-morning bath, proceed to the East Gate of Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple to witness the sacred Sphatik Jyotirling Darshan, popularly known as Mani Darshan. The Sphatik Lingam is considered one of the purest and most sacred representations of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama performed sacred ablutions at this place after defeating Ravana.
