Perhaps the most famous of all black beaches in Iceland, Reynisfjara is known for its striking basalt columns, roaring Atlantic waves, and views of Reynisdrangar sea stacks. Located just a few minutes from the village of Vík, it’s easily accessible via Route 1. Be cautious of sneaker waves and stay away from the water's edge.
Djupalon Beach is one of the most spectacular black lava pearl beaches in Iceland. It is an arched-shaped bay with peculiar rocks, extremely black sand, extraordinary coast rocks and black pebbles. Though it is well-known for its rock formations, one needs to be mindful of its raging waves.

Solheimasandur is a vast black sand desert that stretches between cliffs and sea. It’s best known for the remains of a U.S. Navy plane wreck, which can be reached via a 45-minute walk from the parking lot off Route 1. The eerie, otherworldly atmosphere makes it a favorite among photographers.
Located beneath the dramatic Vestrahorn mountain, Stokksnes is a remote and scenic black beach in Iceland. The contrast between the black sands and snow-covered peaks is especially stunning in winter. Accessible via a small entrance fee from a Viking Café on private land.
Located near the Grótta Lighthouse in the Seltjarnarnes area of Reykjavik, this lesser-known beach is perfect for sunset views and northern lights photography. It's not ideal for swimming, but its accessibility from the city makes it a great quick stop.
Also known as Breidamerkursandur, located near Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach is a dramatic stretch where icebergs from Jökulsárlón wash ashore, glittering like diamonds against the black sand. It’s just off Route 1 and easily walkable from the glacier lagoon parking lot. A must-see among black beaches in Iceland for its surreal contrast.
A lesser-known spot, this beach lies in a geothermal area where yellow-hued rivers run near black sand shores. Reaching it usually requires a guided 4x4 tour, especially in summer. Ideal for experienced explorers looking for something off the beaten path.
