Where the coral starts at the shoreline, and what that means

Sharm's beaches are unusual: on much of the coast the reef starts at the shore, so entry is by jetty rather than by wading. That is why the snorkelling is world class.

Here is the list of 5 Beaches in Sharm El Sheikh

1. Shark Bay Beach

Shark Bay Beach

Sharks Bay Beach has clear waters, fine sand, and shallow depth, which make it a popular spot for swimming. The beauty of the marine fauna and coral reefs here is unmatched, so definitely go snorkeling or diving. Encourage yourself to water sports activities like kitesurfing and windsurfing with professional help and stores to rent equipment.

2. Ras Um Sid Beach

Ras Um Sid Beach

Referred to as ‘Golden Beach’ on maps but Ras Um Sid Beach by the locals, the waters are known for their crystal-clear clarity and vibrant coral reefs with giant clams that dress the waterfront, a popular spot for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. You can soak up the sun whilst enjoying the natural cliffs and high surrounding mountains. Spot the regal angelfish, red sea bannerfish, and parrotfish up close during your dive.

3. Naama Bay

Naama Bay

Naama bay comprises two main areas, a beach area and a promenade complex with shops and restaurants. It is located near El Salam Road in Sharm El Sheikh. It is visited for diving safaris, snorkelling with fish, or chilling under umbrellas by the beach. The pedestrian walkway, known as the El Salam promenade road, is built right behind the beach for a breezy stroll or shopping experience.

4. El Fanar Beach

Terrazzina Beach

Terrazzina Beach, a fantastic pay-to-enter destination, provides a fully equipped beach experience with umbrellas, sun loungers, and seafront sofas. Ideal for family vacations and lively parties, it offers a sandy and safe entry into the water, especially suitable for children due to the absence of coral reefs and barriers.

The Red Sea reefs are the reason to come here at all. Day trips from Sharm El Sheikh covers Ras Mohammed and the desert, and beaches in Hurghada the coast opposite.

FAQs on Beaches in Sharm El Sheikh

Which beach in Sharm is best?

Naama Bay for a sandy entry and facilities, and Shark's Bay and Ras Um Sid for the reef, where you enter from a jetty over the coral. Nabq is quieter and further out.

Why do some beaches have jetties?

Because the reef begins right at the shoreline. Walking in would damage the coral and cut your feet, so hotels build jetties out over the reef to a ladder in deeper water. Reef shoes are still worth having.

Is it good for beginners?

Very. The water is calm, warm and exceptionally clear, and the reef is close enough that snorkelling from a jetty shows you as much as a boat trip. Sharm is where a great many people learn to dive.

When is the best time to visit?

March to May and September to November. Midsummer regularly passes 40 degrees, and winter is pleasant on land but the water cools to around 21 degrees, which needs a wetsuit.

Is Ras Mohammed worth a day?

Yes. The national park at the tip of the peninsula has the best reef walls in the area, plus the mangrove channel and the Shark and Yolanda reefs. It is an easy half-day trip from any Sharm hotel.
