Day 1 Nairobi to Maasai Mara
  • Your adventure starts with an early morning departure from Nairobi at 6 AM.
  • Begin a scenic drive to the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
  • Pass through the Great Rift Valley and stop at a viewpoint to enjoy the stunning landscape.
  • Arrive at your camp in time for lunch and some relaxation.
  • In the afternoon, go out for your first game drive in the vast savannah.
  • Have the chance to see lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and many more species.
  • As the sun sets over the Mara, return to your camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
  • This day is dedicated to a full-day safari in Maasai Mara, offering an immersive experience in one of the world?s richest ecosystems.
  • After an early breakfast, you will set out with a packed lunch for an extended game drive, exploring different regions of the reserve.
  • If you visit between July and October, you might witness the Great Wildebeest Migration, where thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross the Mara River in search of greener pastures, often pursued by crocodiles and big cats.
  • You will also visit the Mara River, a prime spot for viewing hippos and crocodiles.
  • For bird enthusiasts, almost 500 species have been recorded, including:
    • 16 species of eagles, hawks, and falcons
    • 6 species of vultures
    • 8 species of storks
    • 4 species of bustards
    • 9 species of sunbirds
  • Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the same camp as the previous night.
  • Enjoy breakfast at the camp before visiting the local Maasai village to learn about the culture and enjoy a traditional dance from the locals (this is an additional activity).
  • After departing for Lake Nakuru National Park, you will arrive at the lodge in time for lunch, followed by check-in and rest.
  • Later, head out for an afternoon game drive until 6:30 PM.
  • Lake Nakuru National Park is a renowned paradise for birdwatchers, featuring a large population of birds, the most famous being the thousands of flamingos that create a beautiful deep pink coloration around the edges of the lakeshore.
  • Apart from these flamingos, over 400 species of birds visit the lake.
  • Other animals that can be seen in the park include Rothschild's giraffes, black and white rhinos, waterbucks, reedbucks, lions, buffalos, leopards, baboons, and several other species of plains game.
  • Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.
  • After breakfast, check out and begin your journey to Lake Naivasha, arriving in time for lunch.
  • In the afternoon, embark on a boat safari on Lake Naivasha, where you can see hippos, fish eagles, and other bird species.
  • For an additional experience, visit Sanctuary Farm, a private sanctuary where you can take a guided walking safari among giraffes, zebras, and wildebeests in a predator-free environment.

Just went for 8 day safari with James and Wild Portraits Safaris...it was spot o (Read More)n perfect. Reasons 1.Clear communication and replies always comes very quickly on WhatsApp. 2. Very genuine with suggestions and doesn't do things as a job or formality. 3. James is very knowledgeable. 4. The enthusiasm and passion shown by James was just so infectious. 5. The planning of itinerary takes care of all the finer details. 6. They really take care of your focus and they don't try to sell anything you are not interested in. For example we skipped the village visit because we didn't see value in it. 7. Quite flexible and adjusts as things progress.

The entire trip was handled with extreme professionalism by both Janet and our g (Read More)uide Bonnie. We got to see the Big5 within 3 days of our itenary and more on the next days. Janet was very thorough with our itenary and helped us throughout and Bonnie knew all the best spots on all of our game drives. We didn't feel rushed throughout our tour, because it is designed very well to accomodate enough rest. 10/10 recommend
