Malaga Museum

Located in the 18th century, Palacio de la Aduana de Málaga, Malaga Museum currently, displays two sections: the fine art section and the archaeological section. It is a collaboration between the Museum of Fine Arts and the Provincial Archaeological Museum.

A museum founded in 1973, . A fine art collection of 2000 pieces was established by the Royal Decree of 24 July 1913, which encouraged the ministry of public instruction to establish such institutions in those provincial capitals that did not have them. The museum comprises works by Luis de Morales, Pablo Picasso, Francisco de Goya, and many more. The archaeological section has integrated the collections of the old Museo Loringiano. In December 2016, the museum opened its doors as the largest museum in Andalusia and the fifth in Spain. The collection includes objects and materials dating back to the protohistorical era around 1200 BCE. As a result, their sites are part of the multicultural landscape that displays city-states like Malaka and complex societies in the hinterlands of provinces. Among the collection are prehistoric finds from the most significant sites in Málaga, such as a highly preserved Neanderthal jawbone and femur from the Cueva del Boquete cave in Zarraraya.
