Bruhl Terrace

Bruhl Terrace, Dresden Overview

Bruhl's Terrace promenade not only showcases some beautiful architecture but also provides a magnificent view of the Elbe. Regarded as some of the oldest Renaissance architecture in the city, the Terrace was originally part of ramparts built for the fortification of the city.

It is also known as Balcony of Europe. These were subsequently transformed into a terrace garden for king Augustus the Strong's palace. A monumental staircase was built in 1814 connecting the Schlossplatz with the terrace, thereby opening the gardens to the public. You can see the Brick Gate here, Dresden's 400 year old only surviving city gate. An exploration of this place of attraction will give you an adequate insight into how the city defended itself during the medieval era.
