Daintree Rainforest, Australia Overview

The Daintree Rainforest stretches along Queensland's northern coast, a two-hour drive north of Cairns, and is one of the oldest rainforests on Earth, dating back over 180 million years.

It's UNESCO World Heritage-listed and holds deep cultural significance for the Kuku Yalanji people, whose guided walks are one of the best ways to learn the rainforest's plant and animal life first-hand. The Discovery Centre near Cape Tribulation covers the flora, fauna and indigenous history in more depth, and most visitors combine a rainforest day with time at the Great Barrier Reef given how close the two sit to each other.
