Mary Arden's Farm, Birmingham, Birmingham Overview

Mary Arden's Farm, also known as Mary Arden's House, is a 16th century home and farmland that had been occupied by Mary Arden, the mother of the noted playwright William Shakespeare. Located at Station Road, Wilmcote, a mere 3 miles away from the ton of Stratford-upon-Avon, the farm and 4 adjoining properties are owned and run by Shakespeare Birthplace Trust at present. The visitors can experience a day in the life of a farmer who lived here during the bygone Tudor era.

The tourists are accompanied by guides wearing costumes of the Tudor era who go about their daily tasks in the same way as the old Tudor hands would have done at the close of the 16th century. The building has been acquired and is currently run by the “Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.”  Mary Arden's Farm also keeps a number of rare breeds of animals that are showcased to the visitors who are eager to learn more about the daily life of a family living in the Elizabethan times. The farm remains open from March to October usually and is closed down in the winter.

A single adult entry for the full story (5 buildings) comes for a fee of GBP 22.50.
Children are charged GBP 12.50.
Visit to Mary Arden's Farm only is charged at GDP 15 for adults and GBP 10 for children.

Many of the visitors book tickets for visting all the 5 Shakespearen properties together. Booking online by visiting https://www.shakespeare.org.uk/book-online/ is cost effective as one can buy a yearly ticket valid for 12 months and visit the property without restrictions throughout the year.

The birds of prey are kept in the barn during inclement weather.

How To Reach Mary Arden's Farm

The best way to reach Mary Arden's Farm is to take a Stratford Hop-on, Hop-off Bus Tour that stops right at the entrance of Mary Arden's Farm. Visitors arriving by car or hired taxis need to go past Wilmcote train station for about 3.5 miles until they arrive at the farm.
