Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Jaipur
  • Arrive in Jaipur and transfer to your hotel.
  • Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is popularly known as the "Pink City" due to the pink sandstone used in the construction of buildings in the old walled city.
  • The city owes its name, foundation, and planning to the Great Warrior Astronomer Maharaja Jai Singh II (1699?1744 AD).
  • Founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727, Jaipur (City of Victory) is the only city in the world that symbolizes the nine divisions of the Universe through nine rectangular sectors.
  • The architect who formalized the city?s plans based them on the Shilpa Shastra, the epic Hindu treatise on architecture, blending it with the influences of Mughal and Jain architecture of that era.
  • In 1853, the city was painted pink in honor of the visit by Prince Albert.
  • Aside from the busy traffic of bicycles, cars, and buses, little seems to have changed in the city.
  • The afternoon is free for personal exploration or shopping in the colorful and bustling bazaars.
  • Overnight stay at your hotel.
  • After breakfast, proceed for a full-day city tour of Jaipur.
  • Visit Amer Fort, located 11 km from Jaipur. This fort was the old stronghold of the Kachhwaha clan of Amber and served as the capital until it was moved to Jaipur.
  • The fort is constructed from white marble and red sandstone, and it is even more attractive due to the presence of Maota Lake in the foreground.
  • The fort itself is a beautiful sight, and its clear reflection on the lake creates a dreamlike illusion.
  • An elephant (subject to availability, alternatively by jeep) will spare you the trouble of climbing up to the fortress.
  • Once on top, stroll through the sprawling complex of courtyards and halls with a knowledgeable and articulate guide who will share fascinating tales of the past.
  • Later, visit the City Palace, an overwhelming complex of exquisite palaces, gardens, courtyards, decorative art, and carved doorways.
  • The palace museum houses collections of rare manuscripts, armors, costumes, carpets, and miniature paintings.
  • Walk to the adjacent Jantar Mantar, or Astronomical Observatory, built by the Maharaja of Jaipur in 1726. It is one of five such astronomical wonders created by Sawai Jai Singh and continues to make accurate predictions to this day.
  • Jaipur is a shopper?s paradise, with most bazaars located in the old city offering a wide range of items, from jewelry (precious and semi-precious stones and handcrafted silver) to textiles, handicrafts, and antiques.
  • For avid shoppers, Jaipur is the ideal city to shop and collect memorabilia.
  • Overnight at the hotel.
  • After breakfast, drive to Jodhpur, en route visiting Ajmer and Pushkar.
  • Ajmer was founded in the 11th century by the Chauhan ruler Ajaipal and is dominated by the Taragarh Fort. It is a major center for Muslim pilgrims during the month of Ramadan, being home to the Dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chishti. Visit the Dargah (tomb) of Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chishti and the Ana Sagar Lake.
  • Later, drive to Pushkar; at its heart is one of India?s most sacred lakes. There are 52 ghats around the lake and numerous temples. The Brahma Temple, in particular, attracts pilgrims year-round. Apart from its religious significance, Pushkar is known for its Cattle and Camel Fair held every year in the month of Kartik, attracting thousands of visitors. You can also witness and participate in the evening prayer meetings at the temples. Afterward, continue driving to Jodhpur; arrive in the Blue City and transfer to your hotel.
  • An oasis in the arid Thar Desert, Jodhpur is the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan. Representing this colorful city with shades of blue, Jodhpur has a rich history and a present that strongly beckons to discerning tourists. The evening is free for personal exploration or shopping in the colorful and bustling bazaars. Overnight stay at your hotel.
  • After breakfast, proceed for a city tour of Jodhpur.
  • Visit the Mehrangarh Fort, situated on a low sandstone hill. The palace apartments, such as Sukh Mahal, Phool Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal, are beautifully decorated and house jewelry, costumes, armory, palanquins, howdahs, and other remnants of the past.
  • See the Jaswant Thada, an imposing marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, built in 1899.
  • Also visit the Sardar Bazaar and Clock Tower markets, where you can explore the vegetable, spice, Indian sweets, textile, and silver markets. These colorful markets, with tiny shops, dot the narrow lanes filled with wood carvings, wrought iron, lacquer work, silver and ivory ornamentation, and leather handicrafts.
  • Later, continue driving to Udaipur, en route visiting Ranakpur, the largest Jain temple complex in India, dating back to the 15th century. The main temple is dedicated to Adinath, the first Tirthankar. Intricate carvings detail mythological figures, patterns, and motifs on the walls, pillars, and domes. The Surya temple and other Jain temples are side attractions. (Temples open only at 12:00 PM. Leather belts, footwear, bare legs, and black clothing are not allowed.)
  • Continue driving to Udaipur; upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Set on the shores of Lake Pichola and surrounded by hills, Udaipur stands in complete contrast to the harsh deserts of the rest of Rajasthan. The city is dominated by the massive City Palace, which overlooks Lake Pichola with its romantic island palaces. Picturesque havelis, ghats, and temples line the lakefront, with the lively bazaars of the old walled city stretching behind them.
  • The evening is free for personal exploration or shopping in the colorful and bustling bazaars. Overnight stay at your hotel.
  • After breakfast, proceed for a half-day city tour of Udaipur, visiting the City Palace and Museum. The largest palace complex in India, it is a blend of Mughal and Rajput influences.
  • See the 17th-century Jagdish Temple.
  • Drive around Fatehsagar Lake.
  • Visit Sahelion ki Bari (the Garden for the Maids of Honour), an ornamental pleasure garden with fountains and marble kiosks.
  • Later, visit the Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandir or the Folk Art Museum.
  • In the evening, take a boat ride (on a direct payment basis) on the 4 km long and 3 km wide Lake Pichola, which is fringed with hills, palaces, havelis, ghats, embankments, and temples, offering spectacular views of the city.
  • Visit Jag Mandir Island with its exquisite Gul Mahal Pavilion.
  • Enjoy the evening at leisure exploring local markets and overnight at the hotel.
  • After breakfast, transfer to Udaipur Airport or Railway Station.
  • Board your flight or train for your onward journey to the next destination.
