Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 ARRIVE NAIROBI
  • On arrival at Nairobi International airport, you will be met and transferred to the hotel.
  • The city has its share of well-planned buildings and architecture.
  • It is the Garden city of Nairobi. The rest of the city is free at leisure.
  • Overnight in Nairobi.
  • After breakfast drive north through rich farming areas and across the Equator to the semi-arid and rugged landscape of Samburu National Reserve (360 km).
  • Check In at Samburu Sopa lodge.
  • The lodge is built atop raised ground allowing panoramic views of distant Samburu hills to one side and El Ndonyo Keri on the other.
  • Dinner and overnight at the Samburu Sopa Lodge or similar.
  • Overnight in Samburu.
  • Full day free at leisure.
  • You can visit Samburu village or can enjoy Bird watching.
  • Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight at the Samburu Sopa Lodge or similar.
  • Overnight in Samburu.
  • After breakfast, drive to the Aberdare Highlands, arriving at the Aberdare Country Club for lunch(220 kms).
  • After lunch, transfer to Ark in the lodge's own vehicle with overnight bags (main luggage is stored at the Outspan Hotel for collection the following day).
  • Afternoon at leisure to enjoy an excellent view of animals visiting the waterhole from the observation platforms of the lodge.
  • Dinner and overnight at The Ark or similar.
  • After an early breakfast drive into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha, arriving in time for lunch (240 kms).
  • Afternoon at leisure or choose from a selection of optional excursions, including guided walks with naturalists or boat rides (book and pay locally).
  • Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha.
  • After an early breakfast drive to the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, arriving in time for lunch at the lodge (270 kms).
  • Enjoy a late afternoon game drive in one of the world’s finest game reserves.
  • Dinner and overnight at Masai Mara.
  • An early morning balloon safari over the Mara followed by a bubbly bush breakfast (optional extra), or take an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge.
  • Rest of the morning at leisure at the lodge.
  • After lunch, proceed on a late afternoon game drive.
  • Dinner and overnight at Masai Mara.
  • After breakfast, you will be transferred to Nairobi airport for your flight back home this morning.

What's Good: I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numerous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politene (Read More)ss, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
