Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha

  • Upon arrival at the airport, transfer to Arusha.
  • At the gateway of Tanzania’s northern circuit, nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, this Serena hotel sits in beautiful gardens on the shores of tranquil Lake Duluti. It makes for a lovely relaxed first night ahead of your safari.
  • Built on the site of a colonial coffee farm, it’s designed to echo its traditional origins with rooms in thatched cottages grouped around the flower-filled ‘village square’.
  • Overnight in Arusha.

  • After breakfast, transfer to Lake Manyara National Park
  • Upon arrival check in to the hotel.
  • Later, go on a game drive across Lake Manyara National Park observing migratory birds, elephants, hippos, and tree-climbing lions.
  • Lake Manyara National Park lies in the Arusha region of northern Tanzania. The park stretches across 330 sq km, which 230 sq km is the lake. The western edge of the Rift Valley Escarpment forms one of the borders of the park.
  • Overnight at Lake Manyara National Park
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  • This morning, head to the world-famous Serengeti National Park, famous for its Big Five and other exclusive wildlife.
  • Later, in the afternoon, enjoy a game drive of the vast game reserve.
  • Overnight in Serengeti.

  • Be one of only a few fortunate people to glide in a Hot Air Balloon over the Serengeti Plains (available at supplementary cost by pre-arrangement). Floating silently above the awakening bush, while spotting wildlife and enjoying the amazing scenery of Africa across rivers and over numerous small villages.
  • We do an after-breakfast game viewing drive along the Sogore River Circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River and is good for possible lion, Thomson gazelle, topi, ostrich, and cheetah sightings. The visitor’s centre not far from the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites is well worth a visit after the morning’s game drive.
  • The centre also has a shop where cold drinks and snacks can be purchased, a picnic area, and an information trail up and around a nearby kopje.
  • We will enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch at the centre in the shade of the giant acacia trees.
  • In the afternoon, we will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes, which usually attract a number of lion and some formidably large cobras.
  • Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink!
  • Dinner and overnight at the lodge or hotel.

  • Go on a game drive into a different area of Serengeti National Park and then visit Olduvai Gorge - the cradle of mankind.
  • Transfer to Ngorongoro for the night.
  • Set out for a morning game drive to explore a new area of Serengeti National Park.
  • Then drive to Olduvai Gorge - the cradle of mankind. Olduvai Gorge is a steep-sided ravine in the Great Rift Valley that is 48 km long and stretches through eastern Africa. The site is known for British archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey’s renowned archaeological discoveries. Their findings include some of the man’s earliest known ancestral remains.
  • After spending time at Olduvai Gorge, continue driving to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and check in to Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge. This award-winning lodge is dramatically located on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. It has been designed to blend into its surroundings such that it is invisible when viewed from the crater below! Themed after the cradle of mankind, the lodge is adorned with prehistoric-style paintings and lit by torches at night. Each room has its own rock-enclosed balcony to provide you with uninterrupted views of the crater.
  • Meals: Breakfast,Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

  • Go on a day tour to Ngorongoro Crater today to explore its varied landscape. Ngorongoro Conservation Area, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated 180 km west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania.
  • Although commonly referred to as a crater, it is actually a caldera - a cauldron-like volcanic feature usually formed by the collapse of land following a volcanic eruption. The Ngorongoro Caldera is the largest unbroken, un-flooded caldera in the world. Ngorongoro offers some unique sights as you see herds of wild animals grazing on the crater floor.
  • Today you will descend 2000 feet (over 600m) to the crater's floor for a day tour with a picnic lunch.
  • Explore forest areas here that are inhabited by monkeys and elephants, visit the lake area where you may see flamingos, and delight in the views of the open savannah where lions hunt for food.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

  • Your classic Tanzanian holiday ends today as you transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home.
  • Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
