Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve
Your professional safari guide will meet you at your hotel or residence in Nairobi. After a short briefing, drive to the jewel of the north—Samburu National Reserve. Arrive in time for lunch at Ashnil Samburu Camp. In the afternoon, head out for your first game drive in search of African elephants, leopards, lions, and soak in the dramatic African sunset.
Enjoy a full day game drive tailored to maximize your wildlife sightings. Watch elephants wallow in the Ewaso Nyiro River, spot reticulated giraffes, the spear-horned oryx, the gerenuk (giraffe antelope), endangered Grevy's zebras, and the Somali ostrich. Samburu is also ideal for spotting the elusive leopard, birds of prey, cheetahs, and beautiful woodpeckers. Learn about the culture of the Samburu people and optionally visit a local village.
After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park (approx. 6 hrs). Upon arrival, begin a game drive in search of black and white rhinos, lions, antelopes, and visit the lakeshore to see flamingos and pelicans. Lake Nakuru's rich ecosystem provides an incredible introduction to East Africa's biodiversity. Enjoy dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge.
Leave Nakuru early and head to the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve. Arrive in time for lunch at Loyk Mara Camp, then proceed for an evening game drive in search of the big cats—lions, leopards, and cheetahs—along with elephants, rhinos, and more. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Spend the day exploring the vast savannah, home to over 450 animal species. Spot lions, rhinos, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, wildebeests, buffalo, and a variety of antelope. Optional: Experience a hot air balloon safari at an additional cost of $450 per person. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp.
Enjoy a flexible day with personalized game drives. Begin with an early morning safari and picnic breakfast, perfect for catching animals at their most active. Visit the Mara River, known for dramatic river crossings during migration season, and see hippos and Nile crocodiles. Explore the Talek, Sand, and Sekenani Rivers as your guide provides expert insights. Return to camp for a hearty dinner and rest.
After breakfast, depart for Lake Naivasha. En route, stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for panoramic views, including Mount Longonot. Pass historical sites like the 1942 Italian Catholic Church. Upon arrival, have lunch and relax before heading out for a boat ride on the lake—home to hippos and over 400 bird species. Enjoy a guided nature walk on Crescent Island. Overnight at Muthu Lake Naivasha Country Club.
After breakfast, depart for Amboseli National Park via Nairobi. Upon arrival, relax at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge. In the evening, go for a scenic game drive focused on silhouette photography of elephants and other wildlife as the sun sets.
Spend the day exploring Amboseli with packed lunch. Known for its massive elephant herds, this park also offers sightings of cheetahs, lions, hippos, and a rich birdlife. The swamps, fed by Mount Kilimanjaro’s waters, sustain an abundance of flora and fauna. Enjoy the day immersed in this breathtaking landscape.
After a relaxed breakfast, enjoy a final short game drive. Later, drive back to Nairobi to conclude your unforgettable safari experience.

Just went for 8 day safari with James and Wild Portraits Safaris...it was spot o (Read More)n perfect. Reasons 1.Clear communication and replies always comes very quickly on WhatsApp. 2. Very genuine with suggestions and doesn't do things as a job or formality. 3. James is very knowledgeable. 4. The enthusiasm and passion shown by James was just so infectious. 5. The planning of itinerary takes care of all the finer details. 6. They really take care of your focus and they don't try to sell anything you are not interested in. For example we skipped the village visit because we didn't see value in it. 7. Quite flexible and adjusts as things progress.

From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
Everything was perfect.

I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numer (Read More)ous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politeness, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
