Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival at JKIA airport to Lake Elementaita

Upon arrival at JKIA Airport, you will be met by the company representative and driver-guide. After a meet-and-greet session, you will receive a briefing about the tour. You will then embark on a 3-hour drive covering approximately 133 km to Lake Elementaita. Upon arrival, you will check in at Sentrim Elementaita Resort for an early lunch.

After lunch, you will have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of this scenic area. You can visit Soysambu Conservancy (at an extra cost), where you may spot a variety of herbivores such as Rothschild’s giraffes, elands, buffalos, impalas, and reedbucks, as well as predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, and jackals. The lake is also home to numerous bird species, including pelicans, spoonbills, flamingos, and herons. Additionally, the endemic horned viper can be found in this environment.

After the excursion, you will return to Sentrim Elementaita Resort for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will check out and depart for Lake Nakuru National Park. The 29 km drive takes approximately 1 hour, leading you to the rhino sanctuary in the Rift Valley region. Upon arrival, you will check in at Lake Nakuru Lodge for lunch before embarking on a game drive.

During the game drive, you will have the opportunity to observe a variety of bird species beyond the iconic flamingos. The park is also home to diverse wildlife, including rhinos, giraffes, warthogs, olive baboons, zebras, gazelles, and buffalos.

In the evening, return to Lake Nakuru Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will depart for Lake Bogoria, enjoying scenic views along the way. The journey descends to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, bringing you to Lake Bogoria Spa Resort just in time for lunch.

After lunch, you will explore Lake Bogoria, a 32 sq. km alkaline lake that remains volcanically active. The western shore is lined with spouting geysers, steaming vents, and bubbling geothermal pools, which attract a wide range of birds and wildlife. You will also have the unique opportunity to boil eggs in the geysers.

At 18:00 hrs, you will return to Lake Bogoria Spa Resort for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast at 08:00 hrs, you will depart at 09:00 hrs for a 30-minute drive to the neighboring Lake Baringo. This is one of Kenya’s two freshwater lakes, the other being Lake Naivasha. Over 470 species of birds have been recorded here, including migratory flamingos.
You will have lunch at Soi Safari Lodge before engaging in various activities such as:
  • Motorboat cruise on the lake to see birds, wildlife, islands, and stunning scenery.
  • Excursions to the Njemps village to learn about their culture.
  • A visit to the spectacular cliffs nearby.
  • A short walk to the reptile park.
  • A boat trip to Devil’s Island.
  • Watching the fish eagle hunt for fish.
Most of these activities, such as boat rides, are paid directly to the boatmen and are dependent on water levels.

After the adventure, you will return to Lake Bogoria Spa Resort for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will depart for Lake Naivasha, a 4-hour drive. Upon arrival, you will check in at Lake Naivasha Crescent Camp for lunch.

In the afternoon, your driver will arrange a boat ride on the lake to Crescent Island, a wildlife sanctuary that is home to over 350 bird species. Here, you will have the chance to observe pelicans, cormorants, and flamingos. The island is also inhabited by Masai giraffes, zebras, dik-diks, steenboks, impalas, gazelles, and hippos.

Enjoy the peaceful and scenic environment, broken only by the sounds of nature. After the excursion, return to Lake Naivasha Crescent Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, you will depart for Masai Mara National Reserve, a 4-hour drive covering approximately 219 km. Upon arrival, you will check in at Enkorok Mara Camp for lunch.

After lunch, you will embark on a thrilling game drive in Masai Mara, one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife destinations. The reserve spans 1,510 sq. km and features open plains, rainforests, wetlands, and savannah grasslands. Masai Mara is particularly famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration (a seasonal event), where thousands of wildebeests cross the Mara River while being pursued by predators.

Return to Enkorok Mara Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast at 08:00 hrs, you will head out for a full-day game drive in Masai Mara National Reserve, carrying packed lunch.

The game drive offers an opportunity to search for Africa’s Big Five – lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, and rhinos – along with many other wildlife species. Other animals commonly seen in the reserve include cheetahs, zebras, gazelles, wildebeests, antelopes, warthogs, topis, jackals, hyenas, and foxes. Bird species such as vultures, eagles, egrets, ibises, and ostriches are also present in large numbers.

On a clear day, Masai Mara offers stunning views of a breathtaking sunset, a perfect moment to capture on camera.

In the late afternoon, you have the option to visit a Maasai village (optional and paid directly at the site).

Return to Enkorok Mara Camp in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast at 08:00 hrs, you will check out and begin your journey back to Nairobi. The 265 km drive takes approximately 5 hours, with a stop at Narok town along the way.

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be dropped off at your hotel or JKIA Airport in time for your flight.

This marks the end of your safari, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Kenya’s stunning landscapes and incredible wildlife.

Just went for 8 day safari with James and Wild Portraits Safaris...it was spot o (Read More)n perfect. Reasons 1.Clear communication and replies always comes very quickly on WhatsApp. 2. Very genuine with suggestions and doesn't do things as a job or formality. 3. James is very knowledgeable. 4. The enthusiasm and passion shown by James was just so infectious. 5. The planning of itinerary takes care of all the finer details. 6. They really take care of your focus and they don't try to sell anything you are not interested in. For example we skipped the village visit because we didn't see value in it. 7. Quite flexible and adjusts as things progress.

From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
Everything was perfect.

I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numer (Read More)ous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politeness, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
