Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi - Amboseli National Park (215 km, 3-4 hrs)

Upon your arrival and after clearing with the customs desk, you will be met by a company representative and a driver guide. You will be briefed on the tour and then depart for Masai Mara about 6 hours drive covering approximately 265km. On the way, you will have a stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for an escarpment vista. You will proceed to arrive at AA Lodge, Masai Mara in lunch time. You will check in, have lunch, and relax for a while. In the afternoon you will go for a drive in the reserve and return at the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 Amboseli National Park

Early Morning: Game drive with sunrise views of wildlife against Mount Kilimanjaro.
Optional: Cultural visit to a Maasai village to learn about Maasai traditions.
Afternoon: Game drive with sightings of elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and bird species.
Accommodation: Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3 Amboseli - Lake Nakuru (381 km, 6 hrs)

Morning: Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, stopping at Lake Naivasha.
Activities: Boat safari on Lake Naivasha and walking safari at Crescent Island Game Sanctuary.
Evening: Relax at your lodge in Lake Nakuru.
Accommodation: Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4 Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara National Reserve (240 km, 3-4 hrs)

Morning: Game drive in Lake Nakuru.
Afternoon: Depart for Masai Mara with an evening visit to a local Maasai village.
Accommodation: Dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp.

Day 5 Masai Mara National Reserve

Early Morning: Game drive to see predators in action.
Afternoon: Game drive exploring different areas of the Mara, searching for the Big Five.
Accommodation: Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 6 Masai Mara - Nairobi (275 km, 5-6 hrs)

Morning: Check out and drive back to Nairobi with lunch en route.
Optional: Quick city tour of Nairobi before drop-off at your hotel or airport.

What's Good: From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly attentive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. (Read More) We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
What's Not Good: Everything was perfect.

What's Good: I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numerous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politene (Read More)ss, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
