Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 Nairobi - Amboseli National Park
You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel or airport and embark on a 5-hour drive to Amboseli National Park. Before proceeding to Amboseli, you will stopover at the Email Souvenirs Shop. You will arrive early afternoon, check in, have lunch, and rest briefly. In the afternoon, you will embark on game drives, the preferred time for wildlife viewing until evening. Amboseli National Park is renowned for its stunning beauty, set against the backdrop of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain, dominating the landscape. It is also the best place in Africa to witness free-ranging elephants up close—an awe-inspiring sight. You will also be able to spot African lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and other wildlife, offering excellent photographic opportunities. Later in the evening, you will return to Amboseli Sentrim. Camp for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 2 Amboseli – Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, you will be picked up for a morning drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, with an en-route game drive. Lake Nakuru National Park is famous worldwide for its flamingos, as the lake is alkaline and recognized as one of the world's Natural Wonders. You’ll arrive at Lake Nakuru in time for lunch and check-in. In the afternoon, you will embark on a comprehensive game drive through this scenic park, including visits to viewpoints offering superb photo opportunities. The park’s ecosystem supports a wide range of wildlife, including over 56 species of mammals like white rhinos and buffalo and 450 species of birds. Flamingos, greater and lesser, and other water birds are the area's major attractions. Dinner and overnight will be at Lake Nakuru Mbweha Camp.
Day 3 Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, check out from the camp and proceed to Maasai Mara, approximately a 5-hour drive. You will arrive at the camp in time for lunch. Maasai Mara, also known as “The Magical Mara,” is one of Kenya’s most beloved reserves and an extension of the Serengeti ecosystem to the south. Each year, the Mara becomes the staging ground for the “Great Migration,” one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural events. After lunch, you will depart for an afternoon game drive, where you can view the “Big Five”—the Lion, Buffalo, Elephant, Rhino, and Leopard. The Mara is also famous for its abundance of lions. Later, you will return to Zebra Plains Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4 Full Day Exploring Maasai Mara Reserve
Today will be a game-viewing extravaganza! Maasai Mara Game Reserve remains the most exciting wildlife ecosystem in the region. It hosts the highest and most varied concentration of wild animals compared to any other wildlife park. The scenic beauty of the tree-studded savanna plains, moderate climate, and the diversity of wild game species make it a prime destination for game viewing activities. You will traverse the Maasai Mara on a full day of unlimited game viewing, encountering the Big Five and other lesser-known game. Picnic lunch will be held by the Mara River, where you can see hippos and crocodiles. After a thrilling day, you will return to the camp for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 5 Departure
After breakfast at the camp, you will check out and depart for Nairobi with a packed lunch. You will be dropped off at your hotel, pick-up location, or the airport, concluding your 5-day luxury safari adventure.
Just went for 8 day safari with James and Wild Portraits Safaris...it was spot o (Read More)n perfect.

4. The enthusiasm and passion shown by James was just so infectious.
5. The planning of itinerary takes care of all the finer details.
6. They really take care of your focus and they don't try to sell anything you are not interested in. For example we skipped the village visit because we didn't see value in it.

From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
Everything was perfect.

I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numer (Read More)ous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politeness, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls.
James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why:
- Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me.
- He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience.
- A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments.
- Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip.
- Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter.
In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
