Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park
Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru. Known for its large populations of flamingos and rhinos, Lake Nakuru offers incredible wildlife sightings. After lunch, embark on a game drive in the park, where you'll also spot giraffes, buffaloes, and other game. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, head to the Masai Mara, arriving in time for lunch. The reserve is home to the Big Five and offers fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities. In the afternoon, go on your first game drive, looking for lions, elephants, and other iconic species. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Spend the full day exploring the Masai Mara, one of the richest wildlife destinations in the world. The Mara offers the chance to see a wide variety of animals, from predators like cheetahs and leopards to large herds of elephants and wildebeest. After lunch, enjoy another game drive. You may also visit a Maasai village to learn about the local culture. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Another full day of game drives in the Masai Mara. You’ll have opportunities to explore different parts of the park, spotting wildlife in various habitats. Whether it's lions hunting, herds of zebras crossing the plains, or elephants near the Mara River, there’s always something spectacular to see. Enjoy lunch in the park and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, depart for Isebania, where you'll cross the border into Tanzania. Once you’ve completed immigration formalities, continue to the Serengeti National Park. After lunch, go on your first game drive in the Serengeti. The park is known for its vast landscapes and the Great Migration (if visiting during migration season). Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Spend the day in the Serengeti, one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations. In addition to the Great Migration (if you’re visiting during the right time), Serengeti is home to a wealth of wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and more. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, then continue your game drive in the afternoon. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Another full day of exploration in Serengeti. You’ll have more chances to spot the predators and prey that roam the plains. Whether it's a lion pride lounging in the grass or a cheetah hunting, the Serengeti delivers outstanding safari experiences. After a full day, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, depart Serengeti and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey offers scenic views as you approach the crater rim. After lunch, you’ll have time to relax before preparing for your descent the following day. Enjoy dinner and overnight at a lodge on the crater rim.
After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, which is teeming with wildlife. The crater’s rich biodiversity includes elephants, lions, rhinos, and flamingos. You’ll spend the day exploring this UNESCO World Heritage site, taking in the unique landscapes and abundant wildlife. In the afternoon, ascend the crater rim and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions and diverse birdlife. The park is also home to elephants, giraffes, and hippos. After lunch, drive to Arusha, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home or onward journey.

Just went for 8 day safari with James and Wild Portraits Safaris...it was spot o (Read More)n perfect. Reasons 1.Clear communication and replies always comes very quickly on WhatsApp. 2. Very genuine with suggestions and doesn't do things as a job or formality. 3. James is very knowledgeable. 4. The enthusiasm and passion shown by James was just so infectious. 5. The planning of itinerary takes care of all the finer details. 6. They really take care of your focus and they don't try to sell anything you are not interested in. For example we skipped the village visit because we didn't see value in it. 7. Quite flexible and adjusts as things progress.

The entire trip was handled with extreme professionalism by both Janet and our g (Read More)uide Bonnie. We got to see the Big5 within 3 days of our itenary and more on the next days. Janet was very thorough with our itenary and helped us throughout and Bonnie knew all the best spots on all of our game drives. From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
Everything was perfect.

I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numer (Read More)ous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politeness, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
