Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

Pick up from your hotel or airport and drive to the Masai Mara Game Reserve as you enjoy the scenic views of the Great Rift Valley. The reserve covers 700 square miles of magnificent wilderness. It is the Africa of the imagination; endless reaches of acacia-dotted grasslands studded with hazy hills. Afternoon game drive to see the sundowner as you trail the Big 5, i.e., Lions in large prides, Elephants, buffalo, zebras, and numerous plains game. Dinner and overnight stay at camp.
Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner.

Full day spent exploring the park in search of the big 5/other predators. An optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost of US$ 450 per person. Dinner and overnight at Zebra Plains Mara Camp, the Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopards, many kinds of antelopes, and elephants.

We leave after breakfast and proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park. After approximately 5hrs we arrive and start our game drive at this awe-inspiring park. We search for both the black and white rhinos, lions, antelopes, and visit the shorelines for the flamingos and pelicans.
Dinner and lunch will be at the Lake Nakuru Lodge.

We leave camp after breakfast and drive Lake Naivasha. We make a stop at the East African section of the great rift valley viewpoint. It is a geologic wonder of the world.  Enjoy views of a stratovolcano, Mount Longonot, with an 8x12 km caldera is quite a sight to behold. Drive on further past the small Italian catholic church built in 1942 during the second world war, the Italians were prisoners of war, and Kenya at that time was still a British colony until 1963. We arrive in time for lunch, then later, after a brief rest, head out for the afternoon’s activities. We begin with the boat ride, about one hour in the only freshwater lake in the Kenyan rift valley that is home to hippos and over 400 bird species. Get pied kingfishers in action, the African fish eagle busy looking for the all-important protein source, the fish.

We leave the lodge after breakfast and head to Amboseli via Nairobi.
After relaxing at the Sentrim Amboseli lodge.
From the 6-hour drive, we embark on our first photography game drive, looking for elephants and any interesting creative setup. We end the evening with silhouette photography as the sun goes down.

We leave the lodge with packed lunch, spend the day exploring the wonderful Amboseli national park. We search for cheetahs, lions, big herds of elephants which are the main highlights of this beautiful park. In the swamps that are fed water by the Mount Kilimanjaro there is prolific birdlife as well, hippos zebras gnus and a variety of gazelles and antelope.

You will leave after breakfast and your safari guide will drop you at the train station for your Mombasa Train. On arrival in Mombasa, you will get transferred to Southern palm beach hotel in Diani Beach check in for 3 nights where you will enjoy your beach holiday.

Just went for 8 day safari with James and Wild Portraits Safaris...it was spot o (Read More)n perfect. Reasons 1.Clear communication and replies always comes very quickly on WhatsApp. 2. Very genuine with suggestions and doesn't do things as a job or formality. 3. James is very knowledgeable. 4. The enthusiasm and passion shown by James was just so infectious. 5. The planning of itinerary takes care of all the finer details. 6. They really take care of your focus and they don't try to sell anything you are not interested in. For example we skipped the village visit because we didn't see value in it. 7. Quite flexible and adjusts as things progress.

From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
Everything was perfect.

Agent: Wild Portraits Safaris

I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numer (Read More)ous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politeness, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
