Be warned. Never use a debit card in this hotel. We booked using our Revolut card as we are from Europe and it is the easiest bank to use for exchanging from euro to the dollar. The cost of our 5 night booking without breakfast, was $770 with which we were happy.
However we experienced 2 very negative issues re the financial aspect of our stay.
1)On arrival at the hotel $820 was blocked from our bank account. This apparently included $50 deposit. We were told it would be 'released' from the blocked funds at check out.
2) On the day of check out the hotel wanted to charge us an additional $770 - the cost of our stay. We highlighted that $820 was already blocked by the hotel in our bank account. We were advised that would be released 'in a few days'. But we would still have to pay the additional $770 on top of this. This would have meant we would have been missing a total of $820 for 'a few days' and the stay at that point would have cost us almost $1600 from our holiday funds.
We refused to allow this as we simply would not have been able to afford the next part of our holiday if they had temporarily taken another $770 from us.
An uncomfortable, embarrassing, but polite standoff ensued, with us trying to explain why we could not afford to have them hold all this extra money 'for a few days'. It was only when we threatened legal action if they debited us a second time, that they relented and said they would use the already blocked funds.
But the blocked funds included the deposit of $50. We accepted that this would be released in a few days. It is now 16 days later and we still have not had these funds released back to us. (If we were still waiting for the other $770 to be released it would have had a disastrous impact on our holiday financially).
This is the ONLY hotel that operated in this way, during all of our trip to the US, and it left us with a very bad feeling about our stay here.
