Good location for walking around historic area

Loud music until gone 11:30 every night from nearby cafe ruined the ability to relax in the room. I got an electric shock from a plug on the wall when attempting to remove it to insert a phone charger. This threw my arm into a neighbouring piece of furniture bruising it. Front desk appeared mildly interested but not surprised. Other sockets and cabling were also dodgy and showing exposed cables. Dangerous. At checkout front desk charged me in GBP rather than rupees without my consent and blamed the card machine rather than the fact she had clicked gbp. Clearly dishonest. Suggest avoid unless you like the feeling of being ripped off. Could be a nice stay with attention to safety and more friendliness. Breakfast staff were better than front desk lady.

Enjoyed returning and will return again.

I have stayed at Villa Helena many times now and always enjoy it. It is a beautiful building and the staff are always very friendly and attentive.

In the evening there is quite a bit of live music noise from a place across the street, but it does not go on until too late and what can you expect in the center of Pondicherry.

The food offered was excellent. Service a little odd. First day, I got coffee at very end of meal. Second day I got EVERYTHING at once. Abby made a point of me wanting to know her name, was she soliciting a good review?Bc the next day she seemed put off. I simply didnt understand her or what she eanyoof me. Afternoon and evening service w/the guys went smoothly

The stay was pleasant with a few pain points.

Well situated with lots of nearby restaurants and shops and proximity to the promenade. Breakfast food was excellent, if a little limited. Reception staff were friendly, helpful and responsive, even when communicating before our stay. Check-in and check-out were convenient and streamlined. Rooms were nice with a rustic touch.

The smelly bathroom on the ground floor near the steps to the first floor really soured the experience every time you needed to go to your first floor room. There was loud music till midnight from the next-door pub - an issue for the West-facing rooms if you want peace and quiet (if you like rock music then it's a free gig)

Great stay in a historic place! Took me back in time and I definitely would love to come back.

Absolutely loved staying in a historic place. Great job at maintaining the space and keeping it at high standard.

Unfortunately the mattress was a bit too soft for me so I did not sleep exceptionally well for a couple of nights but I can understand that its difficult to arrange a mattress suitable for everybody, but otherwise it was a great bed. The fan accumulated black dust, which can be cleaned.

Very lovely place in an old french villa. The Hotel is in walking distance to the beach and there are many good restaurants nearby. Friendly staff and good breakfast.

Some hotels have emergency power to bypass the frequent power outages. Sadly this place doesn't, which was a bit annoying.

One of the most magical + soul nourishing experiences of my life and I have traveled extensively.

Villa Helena is the most exquisitely charming boutique hotel I have ever stayed at anywhere in the world. From the moment I walked through the front gate, my heart melted. After the delightful owner Geraldine showed me to my room + I took in the expansive space, with 4 foot white ceilings, I was in awe. The room (like the rest of the hotel) is filled with the most thoughtful + divine decor. Every single thing has been considered. The historic value of the property is enhanced by Geraldines unique choices. A pillow top mattress on the bed ensured the soundest nights sleep on my Indian travels thus far. The breakfast far exceeded my expectations with a delicious omelette, freshly made pineapple juice, creamy latte, toasted baguette, fruit salad served using vintage cutlery + a beaming smile from Yogiit was a magical way to start the day. Petit Chat, the adorable white cat adds to the charm as she confidently strolls through the courtyard restaurant filled with candle light + fairy lights in the trees. A calm oasis from the Pondicherry streets. The balmy breezes are enjoyed as youre served the most delicious meals from pastas to pizzas + champagne to cocktails, always with a smile + superb hospitality by Ram. Then there is Sudha. This womans heart + soul is one of the reasons you would want to book this hotel. Aside from all the other hundreds of reasons to stay here. Sudhas presence, her knowledge about all things Pondicherry, her impeccable organisational skills + prompt service enhance your stay beyond anything Ive experienced elsewhere in India . I was so sad to leave this magical hotel + planning my return soon. If you love charm, adore historic buildings, delicious food + heartfelt service, this is the place for you! I would fly all the way from Australia simply to stay at Villa Helena Pondicherry would be the cream on top! Yet my destination would be Villa Helena. Thank you to ALL the staff. So special! My favourite in Puducherry

Beautiful property! Takes you back in time. The ambience created is soothing and relaxed. They have a booklet for guests which gives an overview of the area, it was so helpful. I love that extra touch! The breakfast is fresh and delicious. In my personal experience the staff is great and so helpful. Definitely a must to experience this beautiful property regardless that it lay in the heart of white town.

There is a resto/bar opposite which plays live music everynight from 8pm to 11pm. If you are an early sleeper then it's something you would have to manage.
