The Shaba Boutique Hotel in Stone Town has a great location and attentive staff. The rooms are comfortable with functional facilities and the hotel has nice decor. The breakfast is plentiful and deli (Read More)cious with a buffet selection. The hotel offers helpful amenities like a water cooler and the staff go above and beyond to accommodate guests, offering the use of facilities after checkout. However, some downsides include a squeaky bed and lack of access to cable TV. Overall, it is a good value for money and a recommended place to stay.

Exceptional

Very clean and the breakfast options were really good. The traditional design inside the hotel was also lovely. Staff were incredibly helpful, and the hotel is in a very central location. Just round the corner from shops and restaurants - and around a 10 min walk to the main attractions but it means you get to walk through the back streets of Stone town which is a joy.

Amazing staff

Bianca the hostess there was amazing. Personally I think I paid way too much for what we received and could have found cheaper rates with better facilities. Let's not forget about the taxes which they sneak in just before you leave the hotel, I feel like we paid 5 star rates at a supposedly 4 star establishment.

Pricing was high as the location was not that great. Also we booked the Deluxe rooms, there was nothing Deluxe about those rooms.

The Hotel was beautifully decorated, the rooms were spacious and clean and the location was great.

One of our rooms didn't have air conditioning and also the 'shower' was actually just the shower head with the water going directly on the floor and draining behind the toilet.

Lovely staff, basic facilities

The air conditioning was a relief in the hot weather. Staff were lovely and breakfast had some good variety by East African standards.

Its not easy to find, but the locals will kindly help you find your way back if you get lost. I couldnt get the hair dryer to work.

What a stay at Shaba Boutique Hotel.

The staff were very friendly and very helpfull. The staff gone out of their way to make our stay exceptional. The breakfast was out of the books and very well prepared.

It is not the hotel that I didn't liked. It was the area of Stonetown that was very filthy and not clean. The people there in Stonetown and the beach of Stonetown should be cleaned.

Great base for Stone Town

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. Extra fruit at breakfast, organising drivers for trips, walking you through the warren of Stone Town to the money exchange etc. The hotel itself is a labour of love with exceptional furnishings and artwork. The breakfast is marvellous. They also have free water constantly available: a plus im the heat and humidity of Zanzibar and bigger chains should take note. WiFi very strong too. Everything in Stone Town is in easy walking distance. Just get lost in the maze and enjoy.

We didn't mind but you can't get a car within about 150 metres given the narrowness of the streets. We thought it added to the atmosphere.
