Reviewers Mention About Zanzibar Coffee House

The Zanzibar Coffee House in Stone Town is praised for its exceptional service and warm atmosphere. The coffee selection is described as terrific, although slightly expensive. The desserts are incred (Read More)ible and reasonably priced. The rooftop seating area and panoramic views are highlighted as a standout feature. The staff are friendly and helpful, and guests appreciate the personalized attention. Despite some complaints about the brightness of the interior and the price, overall, it is recommended as a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts and foodies looking for a heartwarming experience.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay in the old town in a unique hotel with great food.
Beautifully decorated spacious rooms in period hotel. Great service and welcome drink. Breakfast served on rooftop terrace.

Beautiful old building in a quiet part of the old town
Fantastic authentic guest house in a beautiful historic building. Friendly staff and great rooftop terrace.
Nothing to criticise. Maybe some softer lighting in the rooms? Also the safe wasn't working, minor details really

Central stonetown stay with a view
Beautiful building and thoughtful touches for our stay. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and staff were very friendly. Lovely view on the rooftop terrace! Great location in stonetown. Would stay again.
Our room was much smaller than we expected, as there the photos of the room were mixed in with photos of other rooms that were larger. It wasn't a big deal, just not what we expected.

Very good
Great location from which to visit Stone Town
Although not ideal for a visually disabled person such as myself, the location of the Coffee House is ideal for exploring Stone Town, and the staff did all they could to faciliate my visit. I was particularly impressed when they asked the night porter to guide me to a nearby restaurant safeky
Although ancient and full of character, the hotal is not ideal easily accessible for those with visual or other disability issues. The breakfast was also substandard for a hotel of this potential quality. It was also not discernable on the Booking.com website that the hotel is unreachable by taxi directly and necessititates a 4 minute walk through a maze of small streets. An adventure yes, but not ideal when you are blind.

Good
Reasonable but not as good as other reviews suggested
The staff were lovely, the free welcome drink was nice and I liked it that they provide unlimited filtered water to drink, so you don't have to buy bottled water. The location is convenient for Stone Town sightseeing.
I booked this hotel because it has such great reviews but I'm not entirely sure I understand why it is so highly rated. It's down quite a muddy alleyway that you can't drive to, and the building opposite is a construction site. It's a bit of a walk from the main areas where lots of the other hotels are, although Stone Town is at least a safe place to walk even at night as a solo female traveller. The hotel felt a bit deserted when the coffee shop wasn't open. The rooftop is available for use but there was never anyone else around. The view from the room was directly at a corrugated iron roof of a neighbouring building. There were other small things that could be better, such as water pressure (although water was at least hot) and the plugs in the room. There were no bedside tables and plug sockets were far from the bed. One of the plug sockets was strange in that my phone wouldn't work when plugged into it (it would flash on and off - maybe something to do with the current?). There was a fan and AC which both worked fine, although the fan was very noisy so I didn't use it. Overall I was content with my stay and I really liked the staff there, but probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Be careful before you book
The property has a lot of character, the food, decoration is beautiful and most of the staff are friendly and helpful.
The owner is not welcoming at all, and truly, couldnt care less about people who already paid to say there. While the property is decorated beautifully, the distribution of the rooms means that you could end up with an external bathroom that is on the other side of the floor, passing by the stairs that are used by guests and non- guests. The location is not ideal for a solo traveller, as you have to go through dark alleys to get to where most of the hotels, beach, bars are. It might be safe but didnt feel like it.
