Great place for the location and the lovely rooms

I loved the beautiful staff at The Pelican. Chris, Eddy, Patrik(not sure if i got his name right, but he was a big, dark skinned, loving gentleman), the bartenders who served me hot water with a smile during their both morning and evening duties, the bellman, the restaurant waiters, they were all lovely people. The location is perfect and my room was a dream.

I didn't like the 300 dollars being charged as security deposit upon arrival without any advance notice. It's a big amount to be blocked on ones card, especially when i am exposed to having not more than 25 dollars being blocked for all my world class stays around the world. They don't provide a kettle in the room,so i had to go up and down for hot water and honey. When i called for it in my room one time, the restaurant manager came along with the server with a bill of 20 dollars for the hot water and some honey!!! That was absolutely unacceptable. The restaurant also charges 20% service tax, which when i asked what and why it was for, the kind waiter removed it saying it's not for in-house guests. The second day, the restaurant manager became grumpy about removing it and then came up with the server with a 20 dollar bill for tge hot water and honey. I found this behavior immature and ridiculous. Then onwards, i didn't eat at his restaurant and kept ordering amazing food from Pura Vida via uber eats or went out to some amazing restaurants like Planta. Highly recommend. The cleaner, 2 of them entered my room without knocking while i was still in there. One came in at 9 am and opologised. Then within 5 minutes, the other one came in and apologized. It was on my checkout day and it wasn't even checkout time at 9 am. Some lady at the front desk informed them that i am checking out tgat day and they were too impatient to wait until i left. Haha

Excellent location right on Ocean Drive. As my room was towards the back of the hotel, it was super quiet (I was worried it would be noisy and I wouldn't be able to sleep). It's a great experience to stay at an Art Deco hotel. The interiors have been fully restored/renovated and each room has a unique design. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was spacious.
