The Pauraque Soho Hotel in Mikocheni area offers spacious, clean rooms with comfortable beds and big smart TVs at a reasonable price. The breakfast is delicious and the gym and pool are nice amenitie (Read More)s. Staff is friendly and helpful. The location is calm and secure, but not in the city center. The hotel could improve by providing toiletries and addressing noisy ACs. Overall, it is recommended for its good location, great breakfast, and attentive staff.

Good

Basic hotel, good night sleep, for a night or two.

Location was good, and room also. Beds were comfy, and I got a good night sleep. Our room was quiet at night. Hotel employees were polite and took care of the customer.

The breakfast was not good when comparing to what this hotel wants to be. Swimming pool was dirty. The coffee was awful. I was offered to warm up the filter coffee which was already cold, burned and old. Hotel needs to learn how to make and serve good coffee, if they want to have more satisfied foreign customers.

The room did not accommodate the family which was 2 adults and 2 kids, and they refused to show is the room until we paid. Once we paid and found out the room only had 1 king sized bed and no Sleeper couch they refused to put us into a room with a sleeper couch even though they had one available because they wanted us to pay for the additional room. In the end after a massive argument they refused to even let me pay for the additional room based on principals because of the argument causing the entire family to squeeze onto a kings size bed and a single mattress, luckily it was only 1 night so it was not too bad.

Rubbish food facilities and over the top surveillance

I have stayed before. Overall, I think it is comfortable, clean and near the main areas in Dar by transport.

I think it is a little overpriced, lacks eating facilities in the evening, forcing you to go out or order in stuff, which isn't that straightforward if you don't have the Apps, have arranged or set up bank or payment facilities. In other words, locals. My other less than impress view with this hotel, is its surveillance. There is security on entrance as expected, but there are several cameras including in the lift, outside the lift on each floor, several on each floor including pointing directly at your room door. It is a Chinese owned hotel and the surveillance is quite overbearing and unnecessary. I don't say have no CCTV but what they have is way too much to feel like you are not in some sort of Chinese colony in east Africa.

Not great

The hotel was near a restaurant and some shops.

It's inside a building. It's not easy to find with a taxi. No room service, neither buffet for lunch and dinner. Pillows were without pillow covers and were dirty. I requested an extra mattress in advance, but it was not ready. There was only 1 charging plug available.
