An idyllic spot overlooking Salzburg

We loved everything about Gasthof Maria Plain! We had no idea where it was located in relationship to Salzburg, but we had admired the church from the road as we came in. Imagine our surprise when we saw we were going up that hill towards the church. Parking was easy & convenient. The second surprise is that the hotel had its own charming Christmas market. The rooms were clean & comfortable, & every room had a breathtaking view. The fact that we arrived after a big snow storm just added to the beauty. It was a short & inexpensive cab ride to central Salzburg. The restaurant had a good menu, great food & reasonable prices. Breakfast was very nice. The staff were very friendly & helpful. We will be back next spring!

Lovely hotel in a very good location

We stayed in this hotel for one night whilst travelling. we arrived on the day when staff had a rest day so there was no one at the hotel. Self check-in was very easy! Wonderful selection of breakfast. Hotel has been with the the same family for centuries. its such a beautiful hotel in a very good location. Not far from the centre at all.

No kettle or fridge in the room which is something useful when travelling with small child (i.e needing to heat up milk etc.)

Stunning view of Salzburg!

The hotel is a dream, and the view is stunning! We arrived on "Ruhetag" (staff was off), but the self check-in process was a snap. Great breakfast. Great rainfall shower. Super clean. Wonderful staff. The drive up to the hotel is steep, but there is plenty of parking. Great bus connections to downtown at the "Plainbruecke" Stop at the bottom of the hill.

At first, the tap water was salty (uh, it's Salzburg!), but after letting it run a bit, it was fine.

A beautiful place to stay.

This place is beautiful! It far exceeded our expectations. The staff was wonderful - especially the your woman who managed the very plentiful and excellent breakfast. Our room was very comfortable and the whole Gasthof felt very welcoming. We will be back.

On the first night here there was a band playing for a party immediately outside of our room (109) and the drums literally shook the door to our room. It was 10:30 when we decided to go down to ask to be re-roomed and the band stopped. My thoughts are that this room (which was literally right off the party room) should not be used on nights when there is a party. Our second and third nights there were quiet and peaceful.

Beautiful hotel

Beautiful hotel, what a gem!

We stayed 2 nights, both days were "quiet days" where hotel was minimum staffed. A bit spooky at night.

We would stay here always when in the area and highly recommend it to all - a real treasure, excellent value for the $$$

This is a magnificent property, set in an Alpine meadow overlooking little Salzburg, yet only a 5 minute( max) drive to the City Center. Absolutely jaw dropping view, but the hotel itself, the huge rooms and bathrooms, lovely outdoors terrace and indoor restaurant, delicious dinner and breakfast but the staff were exceptional - Jasmine very welcoming and sweet.

What is not to like about this place??
