There may be people who expect more from a hotel, but I think there's something wrong with them.

Portobay Flores is about halfway up the hill from the river, on a pedestrian street in heart of the old town. If you are no longer in your twenties, that's a big plus since it means that you usually only have to climb half the hill for any given excursion. You can get to all the major sights of Porto on foot with ease. So for location: A+. Inside, the hotel is designed to integrate old stonework with new finishes and it feels classy and warm. The staff is very helpful and attentive. As for our room, and speaking for the man's role in couple's travel, there's little better in life than walking into a hotel room for the first time and hearing your wife say "Oh, this is beautiful!" So A+ there, too. Breakfast is included and is fabulous unless you're a cardiac physician. They'd got something for every taste in morning comestibles; you can have a full English breakfast, waffles or French toast, yogurt and fruit, cereal or oatmeal, charcuterie with gourmet breads, benets filled with Nutella, or, if you're a glutton like me, all of these at once. So that's another A+. We were there over Christmas, and we were a little concerned about being able to get a nice dinner since we figured restaurants would be mobbed. But the hotel put on a dinner that was spectacular; five courses with a high quality glass of wine paired with each. It was Michelin level stuff, and only 135 euros each. Where we live in San Diego a dinner like that, on Christmas eve, would have cost easily twice as much and maybe three to four times. One more A+.

Allan, Diogo, Saul, Luis, NataliaThe employees are so awesome. Everyone was so kind. The room comfortable. The breakfasts- amazing. Wine tasting in the evening. Wonderful spathey even did a bit of laundry for me. Just an exceptional stay.

The location of the hotel is perfect - everything is in walking distance. The view from our room (7-th floor) was stunning. Breakfast really delicious! The stuff is very friendly and helpful.

It was very cold in the lobby and rather cold in the room. SPA zone is ok just for 4 people, as the hotel is not small it was a problem when we came and there were 6 people at once.

Nice but not blown away

Great location, beautiful interior and exterior space. Well appointed room had a walk out to private patio and courtyard.

Front desk staff were professional but brisk - we were the only ones checking in at the time so it wasnt busy. As the first impression and introduction to a reputed 5-star brand, some warmth and smiles would go a long way. The buffet breakfast didnt have any variation during our time there.

There were just a few problems during breakfast on the second day, the coffee we ordered didnt arrive, the wrong drink arrived, nothing too bad.

My stay was great! Lounge was awesome. Good small plates, drinks and the bar/wait staff friendly!

The breakfast was alright. For my taste a little too much on the pastries and not enough selection of eggs, pancakes or waffles. Also would have appreciated a fish, for example smoked salmon or something similar.

The lighting in the rooms. A little bright would be good especially the room I was in facing the courtyard. Not a lot of natural light coming into the room.

Location was perfect to explore the city, beautiful views from our room and top notch breakfast.

street outside was very busy, not noisy for us at night as our room was set back but made it crowded to get a drink or find somewhere for food without booking
