About Castaways Backpackers Cairns

Operating for more than two decades, Castaways Backpackers’ is a chic family-run youth hostel boasting of an outdoor pool, cosy and informal TV lounge with book exchange, weekly socials and a fully stocked communal kitchen. Dirty as hell

The internet was really good

It was really dirty and everything was unorganized. The main kitchen was under construction so we had to use one that was outside, it had dust and there were no plates nor cutlery. I had to but my own cleaning products and wash everything before and after using it.

Worst hostel we ever slept in!

Not a hostel! Full of permanent residents, no vibe at all. On top of that, facilities are terrible and disgusting. We found cockroaches in the kitchen cabinet, we had to go and buy our own pots/pans and cutlery. Under the bed, WE FOUND USED NEEDLES

The rooms were nice and clean, towels were provided

There are no other backpackers here, lot of people seem to be here long time. The kitchen was not equipped, no cutlery, plates or soap. You had to provide everything yourselves which is crazy for only a couple of nights.

Had to put coins in the air conditioner to use; nobody carries coins anymore. Dirtiest room in a hostel Ive ever seen. Actually left upon arrival to stay elsewhere.

I was greeted and welcomed by the owner and his lovely dogs. Puppy cuddles after a long journey really is the best. I had a great sleep in a comfortable bed, the best sleep Ive had in a long time. Will definitely stay again.
