Could be nice with some minor modifications

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at The National, but was ready to leave. Pros: the location is good, and the grounds, lobby, bar (bar service) and pool are absolutely excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the piano lounge after returning from dinner. A bit overpriced on the drinks, but its Miami Beach and its that way everywhere.

Cons: the room can either be cold or FREEZINGyour choice. The thermostat is a primitive dial that seems to serve no function other than on & off. The shower/tub has an inexplicable 1/2 glass panel that allows water to spray everywhere (not to mention the inability to escape the aforementioned cold air). Worst of all to me, I cant stand slamming doors and this place has hallways that echo the CONSTANT SLAMMING DOORS, starting at 6:45 a.m. If there is one thing that should be addressed ASAP its this, especially by the staff. Theres no reason housekeeping needs to be in-and-out of rooms slamming the door every 15 secs. Get a door stop and do it once. Better yet replace the door system with one that befits a $500+/night hotel.

Locations beach entrance

Valet parking was a inconvenience, the lady was rude when I went to check out. the entrance to the hotel is small with very little room to park coming and going.

First room was bad. Hotel manager put us in a better room by the pool.

Manager said i would of had to pay for a better room. He checked what I pay through booking.com and said I had already payed more for the room than they would of charged if we went direct to them. I will NOT USE BOOKING.com again

High standard, but unsure if worth the price

Good location, awesome pool (with Roberta as a great host :)), direct access to the beach! Generelly high standard.

The room was super cold when we arrived and we hardly managed to get it warm during our 5-day stay. For the price charged, the hotel is generally rather old (e.g. the walls are quite thin).

An elegant indulgence in the center of everything

This art deco building has retained its elegant charm. The endless pool passes through lush greenery and is blissful and leads to a smaller heated pool which is well served by a casual Tiki bar. The Catalan tapas menu at the restaurant is a must-try as are the specials. The staff is attentive and the rooms and beds are comfortable. The location right on the beach gives immediate access to the ocean out back, and the delightful bustle of Miami within steps to great dining and drinking. out front.

Sad Sad Sad. I have stayed in 25 hotels on 4 continents this year. This was THE WORST.

The hotel is a classy old beauty. Overall location is great (despite noise level)

I arrived on Thanksgiving. At the beginning of dinner time, the electricity went out. Rooms were pitch black all night. No one offered us help or advice. The night manager lied and told us it was the whole block. It was not. No one offered us a drink, a candle, a flashlight. I had meds that needed to be kept cold. The manager could have cared less. (After begging, Someone gave me a bag of ice. The next day, my t.v. was not working. The staff said they knew!!!!! I had to INSIST on another room. During the week, construction two floors above my room began at 7 a.m.!!! 7 a.m. There was no concern by the management. Three times during the week, I had to phone the desk after 4 p.m. to have my room made up. My final night--Friday Dec 1, the over-the-top music from the pool area and the adjacent building/hotel went on until after midnight. When I phoned to the concierge, I was essentially that this was Miami Beach! I was told by the general manager, Stephane Mercier, that I would be reimbursed for one night. I have not been. I could go in and on, Let me say that the regular staff was lovely--management was a joke. I am a native of Miami Beach and had not been back in decades. I was excited about this trip, but the National Hotel ruined it.

So so. Good location and fantastic staff ruined by terrible light in the rooms and hidden or additional charges.

Location, pool area, staff and access to beach

Lighting in rooms is depressing. Was offered an upgrade for ocean view which turned out to be view of a building site (with noise included). Extra charge for umbrella use on the beach is in my opinion a rip-off.. I paid extra for breakfast and found out that this was actually a credit which would not cover most menu options.

Lack of compensation from management and not taking responsility for unseen events like no electricity

The staff at the beach and pool

No electricity at the time of checking till 0430 in the morning nor any wifi connection till morning at the first day of check in.No explanation nor any compensation for the unforseen circumstances except for offering an umbrella at the beach.Unable to reach reception via phone,I had to go reception each time to request information about electricity. Temperatures are very cold and unable to regulate manually. We paid extra for ocean view :( which i posted here. Strange and high vibe noises from bathroom every 45 minutes. At the day of check out a phone call received at early in the morning from reception which was a wrong call. Somebody use a room service and write it down our room number. I requested the slip to see because we didnt use room service,at the slip there was somebody elses signature and our room number was written.They informed us they will investigate further.
