Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Marangu Gate – Mandara Huts
  • Distance: 8.3 km / 5 mi | Duration: 4-5 hrs | Zone: Rainforest
  • Elevation: 1905m (6250ft) to 2723m (8934ft)

  • Depart from Moshi and drive for 1 hour to Marangu Gate.
  • Obtain permits while observing the busy preparations of trekking crews.
  • Begin the hike through the beautiful rainforest, where your guide introduces you to the local flora, fauna, and wildlife.
  • Expect muddy and slippery trails at lower elevations; gaiters and trekking poles are recommended.
  • Arrive at Mandara Huts for dinner and overnight stay.
  • Distance: 12.5 km / 7.8 mi | Duration: 6-8 hrs | Zone: Moorland
  • Elevation: 2723m (8934ft) to 3721m (12,208ft)
  • Altitude Gain: 998m
  • Enjoy breakfast before leaving the rainforest behind and ascending into heathland.

  • Start the summit climb between midnight and 2 AM, the most challenging part of the trek.
  • Ascend switchbacks through scree and possible snow, reaching Gilman’s Point.
  • Enjoy a magnificent sunrise from the crater rim, with faster climbers reaching Uhuru Peak in time for sunrise.
  • Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and in Africa.
  • Celebrate with photos and take in the breathtaking scenery before beginning the descent.
  • Descend to Horombo Huts, stopping for lunch at Barafu Camp.
  • Rest and recover at Horombo Huts for the night.

  • After breakfast, attend a farewell ceremony with your trekking crew.
  • Begin the descent, stopping at Mandara Huts for lunch.
  • Reach Marangu Gate, where you receive your summit certificates.
  • Terrain becomes warmer, wet, and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended.
  • Drive back to Moshi (about 45 minutes).
  • Enjoy a hot shower, a celebratory dinner, and a well-earned rest.

Cancellation Policy

If you have paid the full amount for any trip, you are entitled to a refund in case of cancellation. However, a cancellation charge will be applied. Written notification of your cancellation is required. Cancellation charges are as follows:

  • 90 – 60 days or more: Deposit retained.
  • 59 – 45 days before departure: 50% of the total booking cost will be refunded.
  • 44 – 30 days before departure: 25% of the total booking cost will be refunded.
  • 29 – 01 days before departure: No refund of the total booking cost.

If the trip is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather or pandemics, we will offer an alternative trip of a similar standard. If this does not suit your interests, all money paid to our company will be refunded. However, any other expenses incurred by you due to this booking will be your responsibility.
