I booked this hotel because it has such great reviews but I'm not entirely sure I understand why it is so highly rated.
It's down quite a muddy alleyway that you can't drive to, and the building opposite is a construction site. It's a bit of a walk from the main areas where lots of the other hotels are, although Stone Town is at least a safe place to walk even at night as a solo female traveller.
The hotel felt a bit deserted when the coffee shop wasn't open. The rooftop is available for use but there was never anyone else around.
The view from the room was directly at a corrugated iron roof of a neighbouring building.
There were other small things that could be better, such as water pressure (although water was at least hot) and the plugs in the room. There were no bedside tables and plug sockets were far from the bed. One of the plug sockets was strange in that my phone wouldn't work when plugged into it (it would flash on and off - maybe something to do with the current?). There was a fan and AC which both worked fine, although the fan was very noisy so I didn't use it.
Overall I was content with my stay and I really liked the staff there, but probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.
