While the staff was nice, there was a focus on tipping that I haven't experienced at hotels in this price range before. The smallest service was accompanied by an expectation, both indirectly and at times clearly expressed, of a tip. This is not a critique of the staff, but must rather be understood as an expression of underpayment and bad managment.
Two more negatives. The reception staff tricked one in our company to rate the hotel on booking.com with one of the staff. After filling in his name, they took the telephone and pressed excellent on all categories before sending in the review. They asked all of their guests if they could help them fill out a review in this fashion.
The second negative was with the travel desk. We had already on arrival agreed on them organizing a trip for us. It was expensive but we thought it would make it easier when we could make the final arrangements face to face.We were going on a four day trip in an ac bus with a driver for a fixed price. But when we arrived at the hotel there was questions about more money, questions about our itinary and if the driver really needed to speak English. On multiple occasions, by different employees, they wanted me to confirm things we had agreed upon before we even arrived. One of the staff indicated he had a senior role and that we should contact him if we had any questions. After dealing with him and everything seemed to be ready, he asked if he could have some money for his services. On the evening before we were leaving another employee called to have everything confirmed and told me the one I had delt with was a regular employee at the desk, without any extra responsibility for our trip. He had just played a role to earn a tip. Having made the the arrangements with the the travel desk at the hotel prior to our arrival in order for it to be as stress free as possible, we were disappointed with what seemed to be a pretty mediocre operation.
