Hotel Du Vin & Bistro York

Our 'deluxe' room was filthy with broken, shabby furniture, it was freezing and had to rely on portable heater but no heating in ANY bathrooms (this is an ongoing issue). The bed was sagging and bulgy, we had to top and tail to balance out the lumpiness, cheap linen with ill-fitting duvet cover on world's thinnest duvet and bed not properly made so sheets became rumpled and dragged on disgusting carpet, flat and flimsy pillows. The worst night's sleep I've had since having newborns. Blinking fire alarm all night, ridiculously loud plumbing noises from other rooms. TV aerial didn't work properly. Bath tub in the room which was the main reason we booked had yellow stains in and the tap fell off. Thick dust all over the carpet. Stains on cushions, limescale, short curly hair on bathroom floor, cracked sinks and plaster, chipped blinds, brown stains on soft furnishings. Rank. To top it off, we said we'd pay on check out so they took a 'pre-authorisation' on my partner's debit card (despite them having my credit card details guaranteed via booking.com). The total was 378 for the room plus 30 parking charge (car park incidentally is really muddy, we carried our wheelie bags so as to avoid dragging mud into the hotel which in hindsight was laughable when we realised how dirty it was anyway). They pre-authorised the 378 plus 30 parking then added 42 for no reason as some kind of buffer? Not sure but didn't question it then and there as didn't expect so many issues. We reported issues with our room being cold on the first day but it was New Year's Eve so no other rooms available (and none had heating anyway) however we then went out so the other issues only became clear later in the evening at which point we just wanted to get through the night and leave. We were due to stay another night but told reception we'd be checking out early.
