Golden Tulip Zanzibar Resort

You can not be sure that you actually would stay here, no matter that you booked and paid for it. That happened to us. Arriving late in the night after 20+ hours travelling, we were informed by a driver that he was supposed to take us to another hotel because Golden Tulip is overbooked (!). We had no choice. We were taken to a place way below the level of Golden Tulip, at the end of a dirt road.No service avaliable, restaurant closed (at Golden Tulip you have 24/7 room service), no Internet, so we had not much idea about where we were. The driver called the Gilden Tulip reception and I made sure they understand how unacceptable this was and I expect them to pick us up first thing in the morning. They did. After arrival, we asked the reception and the reservation manager, Ismail, that we would like to extend our stay with 2 nights. They will check, no worries. From that point on, we went to the reception twice a day to ask the same simple question: is it possible? They did not even check but wrote it down and referred to Ismail. We were busy with programs, our last day arrived and I started the day at the reception again but still no answer, apart from the usual: I should not worry, by the time we are back, they will check. We were back at 5 pm from our daily program, went to the reception immediately but no answer. I asked for Ismail but was informed that he is at the restaurant, I should wait. After waiting for half an hour, I went to the restaurant and asked for him. And there he was, smiling, shrugging his shoulders and saying we might need to book somewhere else because THEY HAVE BEEN OVERBOOKED FOR A WHILE. So, it seems they let people book and pay while they exactly know, they would not be able to accommodate them.
