Old cottage stay

+ EXCELLENT staff (dedicated, attentive, friendly, caring, polite) + rainforest surroundings, but unfortunately next to a road + great food in the vegan restaurant and the Japanese one (Rimba is nice for sunset drinks) + great massage + lovely shower gel + nice balcony view (although no sea view); we enjoyed our time sitting on the balcony + filtered water glass bottles, coffee with french press and a small milk ware nice touches + beautiful paintings in the room + they provide transport to/from your cottage anytime you request it TIP: even if you are not vegan (like us), try having breakfast at the vegan restaurant which is of a higher class than Rimba. MUST try: french toast, carrot cake, falafel, avo toast, summer rolls.

- old/outdated room & furnishing - very old property (looks like over 70 years old) - noisy road nearby (no sound roof windows) - poor breakfast with set menu at Rimba (I wonder if the luxurious villa guests get the same kind of breakfast..) - very uncomfortable bed and shabby bedding (bedsheets were greyish colour instead of white which is the basics in hospitality) - loud music from nearby beach club on weekends - our studio had a smell, another smell was coming from the AC - no proper lights in the studio, but the road outside has an extremely bright light pointing at our entrance - very steep way to the studios (if you're not fit, don't bother climbing up) - no working wifi (even after getting a router) - bathroom: hot water runs out after a couple of minutes (meaning 2 people cannot shower after each other, I was not able to wash my hair), no hand shower - I noticed that they don't iron anything over there, which can be seen on bedsheets, towels, table cloths in restaurants - some cottages have tiny balconies, so check before booking TIPS for the management: 1. Sound-proof windows 2. Mosquito nets on at least one window in each cottage 3. Review your false advertising on Booking.com (hight speed Internet/soundproofing/photos of villas on the cottages bookings etc.) Since your resort is near a road and nestled in the forest, having mosquito nets on windows is a must, and it might fix the smelly cottages issue by improving ventilation. 3. Adding proper lights 4. Adding essential oils to cleaning detergent as they are also giving bad smell

a very special place

we loved our stay at ambong. the team are amazing and really understand the meaning of hospitality- they looked after us so well. our room was immaculate and bug-free. nothing better than watching monkeys from the balcony. food in pegaga was great- especially the breakfasts which are the best weve ever had at a hotel.

The room and location was relaxing and beautiful. The staff were very attentive and friendly, a very personalised service. The pool is beautiful, the two restaurants were lovely. Catch sunset at the Rimbo restaurant above the pool villas, it is unforgettable. Breakfast options were lovely.

I liked everything about the hotel! The nearest beach had lots of jetskis so not as quiet as the hotel, not a big deal.

Beautiful, peaceful stay with friendly staff

The location is close to the beach and restaurants but within enough distance to be quiet and peaceful. The room was gorgeous and we loved the food at both restaurants! The staff was so kind and accommodating! We also loved that we could take yoga classes with Shinny.

The sights and sounds of the rainforest were magical, the monkeys were amazing!

The breakfast was fantastic, and the location absolutely stunning. We were quietly observing the wonderful rainforest, and all the beautiful creatures living in it. Authentic and tranquil.

The pool is small, but the intimacy of the area is lovely. Possibly a couple more loungers would be a good thing because not always possible to get one, - but perhaps not so much a problem because it's the lack of people here that makes it special. Honestly, one of the nicest environments I've ever stayed in.

Attention to detail in a paradise setting served low key, understated, truly professional way

Breakfast is an amazing experience in both the main restaurant Rimba and the vegan restaurant Pagaga. The food was outstanding with options to suit any palate and the staff were extremely attentive and accomodating to any of our needs. Nothing was too much trouble and we were blown away by their service and Wonderful attitude especially from Lina I can not recommend this place highly enough for a relaxing stay combining calm ambience, exquisite food, attention to detail in a paradise setting that is served in a low key, understated and truly professional way.

Great location surrounded by nature and wildlife

Great location up in the trees, loads of nature all around. We had a big troop of dusky leaf monkeys hanging out by our room, which were great to watch. You can have breakfast in the vegan restaurant or the pool villas resort over the road; both very good. Very friendly staff.

Poor internet connection. Very steep hill up to the rooms so wouldnt suit someone with reduced mobility - though the staff will drive you up and down if required.

Ambong resort is a pleasant place. It is located near the jungle, it has lovely surroundings and really good restaurants. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very nice.

Unfortunately I think that this resort was overpriced. Rooms are okay, but the design and comfort is not quite there, especially given the price range. Photos are a bit misleading, our Canopy Suite had a very small balcony with just two chairs and a very basic bathroom. We were also disappointed with how noisy the place was - the music from nearby party beach resorts was loud and went on till late. The resort is indeed surrounded by the jungle but it is actually walking distance from a very busy beach. It's not quite the serene, quiet and tasteful retreat we were hoping for.
