Bed was comfortable and room was clean

Room was not what I booked it was a standard double bed it was not an extra large bed as stated when booking and no desk or chair, had to plug kettle in on the floor as all surfaces were to high to safely plug it in. Shower was a joke bathroom floor got soaked and no bath mat, the sink took ages to empty when used for brushing teeth it was a joke. No heating in the room except a small portable heater that didn't heat the room radiator didn't work. There were discarded mattresses outside the front of the building by the basement that could clearly be seen in day light, I arrived in the evening and it was dark, had I seen them I might of had second thoughts about even staying here. Overall not a very pleasant stay even for one night. It seems that if you use a booking app system to book here to get the discount you are shoved into a room that is not what you booked and as the place was fully booked wouldn't be able to be moved to the type of room you payed and requested when making the reservation. Wouldn't book here again and certainly will not recommend it to anyone.

- Sea view. - Good size room. - When I had trouble working out the heating the man on reception was very helpful, came up to the room to help and called me later to check everything was ok. - Reasonable price and available at short notice for Christmas (this was not my expected location) - No bed bugs! I read some terrible reviews on other sites after I had booked, but my room was pretty clean, and no nasty creatures were sharing with me :)

- It was lacking in festive cheer/atmosphere. - The double bed was two single beds pushed together. One had a hard mattress, the other was soft with a massive dip in it, so neither were very comfortable. - The bathroom shower cubicle was tiny (and I'm small) and the shower head holder was broken, so showering was one-handed and cramped. - It looks a bit unloved. A good deep clean, a lick of paint, new carpets (or a deep clean of the existing ones) and some attention would really spark things up.

Sea-front en suite hotel which becomes The Shining at Xmas!

En suite for a very good price and well located- a short walk from town. T.V. and WiFi worked fine, and the shower took a while to get hot but was fine. The key fob to buzz yourself into the Hotel worked well (key for the room) Tea and Coffee, and shower gel available as you come in to take to your room. Small heater was ample for the room, which seemed well insulated (it was cold outside the Hotel, but room was not cold) Decent bed and table with kettle on made good use of the small room.

Firstly, I have to say I went at Xmas, so a different experience to most! Saw no one in the hotel, though heard some people, and reception was empty but a intercom was there to talk to someone. Not sure why I was put on the top floor when it seemed empty (a sore ankle meant I would have preferred a lower floor) Reminded me of 'The Overlook' from the film The Shining, but thankfully only due to it's ghostly emptiness! As I said it was at Xmas time so different to other times of the year.

Friendly staff at reception. Great value for money. Comfortable bed. Upgrade to sea view.

Dusty surfaces in the room. Hair of previous occupier on the wall of the shower. Not cleaned during my stay and milk/tea bags were not replenished.

I always receive great service from the staff at the Oban and the rooms are very comfortable and clean. The location is great for both the seafront, the town centre, buses and the rail station.
