One & Only is now One by many

Location and size of room and terrasse. The bar area.

Check in took long time. We had to wait for 2 hours in the bar and as the hotell was almost empty they could have speeded up the cleaning of our two rooms. It was not until I complained that things happened. They also took care of the bar bill. But most to complain about is the price of the rooms. For over 1000 Euro per night you expect a super service and welcome.

A lovely hotel with genuinely pleasant staff

Waking through the entrance you are greeted by a magnificent view of table mountain. We had booked a marine harbour view room which was enormous. Our balcony was the biggest we have ever had, a delightful place to sit with a glass of wine and watch the boats. The bathroom area was beautiful with a double vanity, shower and bath. On arrival there was a bottle of wine in the room and a selection of snacks - dried fruit, biltong etc were also delivered. Breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room with views of table mountain. There was a large selection of fruit and cold cuts, a menu of cooked food and a self service are with South African specialities. Sparkling wine was offered and topped up if you wished. The pool area is over a bridge; there are some loungers but on a hot afternoon you may struggle if you don't get there early. The staff were genuinely pleasant and helpful, especially the concierge team who helped us to recover our suitcase which hadn't made the flight. I must mention Tash in particular, I think he knows everything there is to know about Cape Town and has a great sense of humour. This are of Cape Town is very safe, whenever we went out there were plenty of security staff around the streets and shops area. If we return we would certainly stay at The One and Only again.

A highly disappointing One&Only visit for what we thought was going to be a magical one. At this cost, Id question

Beautiful location, beautiful property, excellent service and food at breakfast and it had the potential to deliver the quality and standard one expects of a One&Only, but sadly they missed the mark on this occasion.

1) Housekeeping: no turndown service for 2 of my 3 nights, crumbs were left and no vacuuming took place. (I did say something and the third evening they did a lovely job and an Im sorry note and cream were left by the housekeeping team). A gracious gesture, but I would have preferred a cleaned room. 2) No hot water across the property from 10am-6pm for one of the days (unlucky for us and other guests as this, Im sure, is highly unusual and it was likely outside of the hotels control, but disappointing all the same as we could not use our showers, the pool or spa facilities which we had planned on). 3) Upon departure my bill had a hotel car charge which I never booked. Had I not noticed it I would have unknowingly paid R760 (35). They did remove the charge after I flagged it to them. 4) Check-in: the woman gave me a nice overview about the facilities at the hotel and when she took me to my room I thanked her and gave her R100 (~5) tip, but she looked at it and pulled a face and walked away. This said, the man who delivered my bags I also gave the same amount and he was very gracious so this may have been a one-off. 5) Having just come from the Four Seasons in Johannesburg (which was 1/2 the price), the difference in service and care was night and day. Its a shame as I was really looking forward to my One&Only stay. Its no doubt a beautiful property but they really let us down on this occasion (there were a couple of other things in addition to the above). I felt a little bit like I was being questioned on my visit rather than being made to feel welcome. 6) Service was generally slow, but its important to note that not all service was poor. There was some really lovely staff like the gym trainer, the breakfast staff and the door/bellmen out front.
