"The One with Countless Cornfields"

Iowa, USA

Blessed with dramatic scenery, especially towards the north, the whimsical American state of Iowa is an emerging unconventional location for backpackers around the world. No matter what direction you look in, you'll find vast expanses of cornfields blanketing the landscape. However, its agricultural towns have managed to leave its visitors bewitched with fascinating destinations, natural and manmade alike.

Towards the north lies the picturesque Driftless Area comprising meandering rivers, bluffs, hills and caves. Another too-good-to-miss landmark is the iconic baseball field from the film 'Fields of Dream'. In Central Iowa, a 25-mile long trail called High Trestle Trail that is frequented by explorers and bikers. Des Moines, the capital city, is also situated in central Iowa and offers an ethereal blend of history and culture. The main highlights of this city include State Capitol, a fascinating architecture perched atop a hill, and Iowa State Fair, a centuries-old traditional fair held in August every year.

Towards the east lie the Amana Colonies. The quaint ambience of these hamlets attract visitors who wish to experience the traditional lifestyle of the state. And finally, in the west, we have the Grotto of the Redemption. Regarded as the eighth wonder of the world, this nine caved shrine commemorates the life of Jesus Christ and is an architectural marvel constructed with precious stones embedded in its walls. A word about the local dishes of fried food over here- try everything you see. Period.
