Day 1: Arrive Amman

Even within the midst of the ultra-modern commercial centre of the city, there is evidence of its ancient roots, with colourful ancient souks, Roman ruins, cultural museums and monuments painting a picture of the history of the region.
  • Overnight stay in Amman Hotel.
  • After breakfast at hotel, drive for an Amman city tour to visit King Abdullah Mosque, the Citadel and the Roman Amphitheater,
  • Continue to the mighty Crusaders Castle of Ajloun.
  • Depart at noon through pine forests and olive groves to the fascinating Greco-Roman city of Jerash.
  • Our guide will take you for a tour through the collonaded street, amphitheatre, churches, temples and the vast Roman Forum.

  • Jerash lies on a plain surrounded by hilly wooded areas and fertile basins. Conquered by General Pompey in 63 BC, it came under Roman rule and was one of the ten great Roman cities of the Decapolis League. The city's golden age came under Roman rule, during which time it was known as Gerasa, and the site is now generally acknowledged to be one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Hidden for centuries in sand before being excavated and restored over the past 70 years, Jerash reveals a fine example of the grand, formal provincial Roman urbanism that is found throughout the Middle East, comprising paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theatres, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates.
  • The marvels of nature and the genius of medieval Arab military architecture have given northern Jordan two of the most important ecological and historical attractions in the Middle East: the sprawling pine forests of the Ajlun-Dibbine area, and the towering Ayyubid castle at Ajlun, which helped defeat the Crusaders eight centuries ago. Ajlun Castle (Qal'at Ar-Rabad) was built by one of Saladin's generals in 1184 AD to control the iron mines of Ajlun, and to deter the Franks from invading Ajlun.
  • Ajlun Castle dominated the three main routes leading to the Jordan Valley and protected the trade and commercial routes between Jordan and Syria; it became an important link in the defensive chain against the Crusaders, who, unsuccessfully, spent decades trying to capture the castle and the nearby village.
  • After Breakfast at the hotel, departure for a journey to the south of Amman; visit Madaba, which has some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in the world, including the famous 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy land and Mount Nebo, the highest in the Moabit range which has been a centre for pilgrimages since earliest Christian times.
  • Then drive into and up out the all-inspiring Wadi Mujib via The King's Highway to the Kerak Castle, the largest late Islamic castle in Jordan, initially constructed in the Crusader period and expanded and refortified during the Ayyubid and Mamluk periods.
  • Continue to Petra for overnight stay.
  • After breakfast, tour the Red Rose city of Petra.
  • Upon arrival, you will begin an unforgettable trip on horseback to the Siq after by foot through the narrow passage between the massive rock walls that provide the main access to the ancient site.
  • Entering Petra through this chasm till we reach our first glimpse of the Treasury, whose towering façade bedecked with magnificent columns was made famous in the final sequence of the popular Hollywood film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade".

  • Inhabited since prehistoric times, this Nabataean caravan city, situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, was an important crossroads between Arabia, Egypt and Syria-Phoenicia. Petra is half-built, half-carved into the rock, and is surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges. It is one of the world's most famous archaeological sites, where ancient Eastern traditions blend with Hellenistic architecture.
  • After breakfast, drive to the largest and most magnificent of Jordan's deserts Wadi Rum

  • Wadi Rum is a protected area covering 720 square kilometres of dramatic desert wilderness in the south of Jordan. Huge mountains of sandstone and granite emerge, sheer-sided, from wide sandy valleys to reach heights of 1700 meters and more. Narrow canyons and fissures cut deep into the mountains, and many conceal ancient rock drawings etched by the peoples of the desert over millennia. Bedouin tribes still live among the mountains of Rum, and their large goat-hair tents are a special feature of the landscape. There are many ways to enjoy the attractions of Rum, including jeep, camel and hiking tours, and you can stay overnight in a Bedouin tent and gaze at the amazing panoply of stars. To safeguard its unique desert landscape, Wadi Rum was declared a protected area in 1998, and an intensive conservation programme is now underway.
  • After breakfast drive to the lowest point on Earth the Dead Sea, enjoy swimming in the buoyant waters and get covered in mud.
  • Drive to Amman for overnight.

The leading attraction at the Dead Sea is the warm, soothing, super salty water itself – some ten times saltier than sea water, and rich in chloride salts of magnesium, sodium, potassium, bromine and several others. The unusually warm, incredibly buoyant and mineral-rich waters have attracted visitors since ancient times, including King Herod the Great and the beautiful Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra. All of whom have luxuriated in the Dead Sea’s rich, black, stimulating mud and floated effortlessly on their backs while soaking up the water's healthy minerals along with the gently diffused rays of the Jordanian sun.
