Ok - but needs some TLC

Rooms are beautiful. Good location. Bar facilities big and good.

I arrived after paying for any early checkin to the lift not working (no signage) and noone came to reception for over 20 mins (i eventually had to go back down with my luggage to the bar to check in and was told the hotel manager was off sick - again a quick post it note to explain on the reception desk would have avoided a lot of the stress). I travel a lot and its a good looking hotel - but their operations need some work

Good value hotel in the centre of Reading.

Reasonable price for a town centre hotel arrangement. The solid construction of the property also provided good soundproofing from outside activities and the lively public bar on the ground floor. Bed and bathroom facilities were of good size and and functional.

Nothing that comes to mind regarding the room, but the hotel is administered as part of the pub and had no dedicated hotel staff in the event of an issue. No formal check out procedure existed so the key is just returned to an unmanned desk.

Pleasant

Pretty and comfy but not perfect

Close to the town centre. Comfy bed.

When we arrived we had trouble even getting through the door as there was a private event on in the bar. When we got in, the member of staff we assumed was working reception at the bar completely ignored us for 5 minutes as she stared tapping at her laptop, not even any eye contact or a hello sorry Ill be with you in minute, she completely blanked us and we were stood there like lemons until she was ready for us. But then she was exceptionally nice and helpful so a quick hello would have made a world of difference. The lift wasnt working which we hadnt been advised of beforehand wasnt a problem for us but anyone with access needs would have struggled. The room was lovely although very dark, even with all the lights on. There was nowhere brightly lit with a mirror to put make up make up on. The toilet seat was plastic which, considering how boutique the room is was a surprise. Only 2 breakfast teabags provided, we ended up buying our own. And because the rooms are directly above a busy bar it was very noisy until late (we were on the first floor) so if you want peace and quiet this isnt the place to stay. The most ridiculous thing however was the sheer number of emails I received between booking and arriving, 12 in all!! Some of them had incorrect dates of our stay and all of them contained so much information, repeated from earlier emails, that I simply stopped trying to work out what they were trying to tell me. Really confusing!

Superb

Comfortable, characterful and convenient

A characterful boutique style hotel in central Reading. Large comfortable rooms and a great bathroom. Best of all the dont skimp on the tea and coffee and have cold bottled water in a fridge on the Landing. Theres a council car park nearby (not the Oracle) which is the best value if you need overnight parking

Disappointing

A distressed surprise

The location in the centre of Reading and all the staff were very helpful.

The property was totally distressed, but not in a trendy way! The lift wasnt working and reception (which was unmanned) + the rooms were on the upper floors! The bed was hard and the rooms arent soundproof as we could hear the band playing downstairs. There was also no breakfast offer. Not what we expected.
