Despite recent negative reviews, the Briarwood Inn exceeded expectations as a quaint inn with great walkability in Carmel. The rooms were spacious, clean, and had the expected amenities. The location (Read More) is convenient, with a 5-minute walk to the center of Carmel and a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. Some had issues with parking and the accuracy of Google Maps. However, overall, guests were impressed with the quality, price, and location of the inn.

Pleasant, great location

Location is great. Walking distance to everything. Heat and AC worked well. Cozy classic but charming cottages.

The smell. Visitors should be aware that these houses are old, hence they come with a distinct smell. This smell can be noticed all over the US in old wooden houses like these. So any other property in Carmel with an older structure (most places in Carmel) will have this smell. It's strong, and you will take the smell with you after you leave (your clothes will smell like it). However, you can quickly get used to it, it does not really bother while staying in the room / house. Another thing is the cost. Briarwood Inn is among the more affordable places. Yet, the rates charged in Carmel in general are really expensive. $300 a night would be a steal, and we're not talking about 5 star hotels, we are talking about simple cottages with interior from another generation. Lastly, the house we stayed in had many windows. Not a single one has curtains. Just blinds. They don't do a good job at making the room dark. I would expect curtains, should be standard.
