Conveniently located hotel with beautiful beach and great hospitality

We highly recommend Talalla Leisure. Great location with exceptionally helpful staff. Anne and Manju made sure our group was well taken care of. The property is very well maintained and clean. Talalla beach is a very large and beautiful beach with very few people, and amazing views and warm water. It can be reached after a short walk through the property. There is a large variety of options on the menu with traditional Sri Lankan food and more.

Lovely views and hospitable staff outside of the city

Was greeted warmly by the staff when we arrived and even had coconuts to enjoy which was wonderful - especially after roughing it the 2 days before in Yala. The room itself was lovely, clean and had a great view of the ocean. The shower was wonderful (and not just because I hadn't showered on safari). Ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was very good and reasonably priced. Had to leave early to catch a train and the team was so helpful for us - coordinating a tuk tuk at 5am and even packing breakfast for us to enjoy on the train (and it was wonderful).

Only negative that I could come up with is that this is outside of town (but I also see a positive). If you want to get to town you can walk along the main road or take a shortcut behind the property (which also has great views of the beach).

I recommend these apartments!

I would like to note the friendliness of the staff and willingness to help. Breakfast is different every day, very tasty and beautiful, every day we were served fruit from their garden! They also have a restaurant, the food is fast, the portions are huge, there is a lot of seafood. With our own eyes near the hotel we saw monkeys, peacocks, lizards and its wonderful! In general, we were pleasantly surprised by the service, I highly recommend this hotel to families with children or quiet groups!

The hotel itself is wonderful, but the city of Talalla is very small, for any entertainment you need to go to neighboring cities.

New and clean property close to idyllic Talalla beach (albeit a little trek down the rocky outcrop - there are steps) in a peaceful location. Staff were excellent. Absolute value for money.

The location was beautiful. 5 minutes walk to the beach and beautiful views.

You need transport as not really near any other restaurant or shops

Genuine old fashioned hospitality in paradise.

The food is exceptional, Manju is a very talented cook. Breakfast is different every day and served at a time requested by you. We Loved the sea view and breezes while we had breakfast. Fresh fruits from the garden were full of flavour, and we had them in our Lassie each day also. The location was just perfect for us, we enjoy a bit more seclusion then regular accommodation options and Talalla Leisure exceeded our expectations. There was no traffic (and exhaust fumes) or other noise apart from the sounds of birds and the ocean. The rooms are spacious, clean and with A/c and fans we had very good sleeps. We saw a lot of birds (including peacocks) and fish swimming over the rocks out front. The rock pool makes a great place for an early morning dip before breakfast. We will definitely be coming to stay here longer on our next visit. Thanks to Manju and his family for all their care and attention.

Quiet with a good view.

Our most disappointing stay in Sri Lanka. The AC barely works and leaks. The room was very hot. The TV didn't work despite promises of it getting fixed. In 3 days nobody cleaned room, didn't even offer cleaning. There were giant cocroaches and spiders in the bathroom (photo available). We were told that we are not allowed to eat in the room because of the food smell, but the "restaurant" doesn't have AC or ceiling fans. The owner also didn't hesitate to charge 10% "service" to bring food there. Food was oversalted, a very small amount of tuna and no other sea food in the sea food kottu. Owners are dishonest, cancelled our booking to not pay percent, but we paid fully, and also tried to charge us 3.7% more for strange reason. There is no quick access to the beach here. The beach is a 10-15 min hilly walk away.

A tranquil paradise - the best of our trip

Everything is perfect for a relaxed vacation. We have been very lucky in finding Talalla and this small hotel. The Talalla Leisure only has rooms in its main building (the more traditional looking one) open currently, and as we visited at the start of the week we were the only guests - so we had a "celebrity experience" - the hotel has lovely staff, a beautiful building and quiet surroundings, as well as a private beach/cove and easy access to the main beach - and incredible sunrise/sunsets from the view point 2 minutes walk away - we had this all to ourselves. We booked 1 night, stayed 3 and would come back in a heartbeat. Our room was very comfortable and had a/c and a seaview. The private beach is great for relaxing and has loads of fascinating rock pools to explore. The food is excellent and well priced - so much more interesting and varied than other places we've stayed in Sri Lanka, including a different breakfast each morning and juice from the hosts' own fruit. The available dinner menu has great tasty options and you can enjoy your meals with fantastic sea views. There is easy access to the wide main beach via a viewpoint and some steps, and there are a few beach bars to choose from. The hosts and staff are great, and welcomed us with a king coconut each (from their own trees!). Tourism in Talalla I assume has always been low key, but currently it feels like a personal paradise as everything is open and visitor numbers are starting to recover. If you're looking for the ultimate secret beach paradise in Sri Lanka, you've just found it in our opinion!
