Disappointing

Gloomy and seemingly geared to day tripper coach parties, not residents

Striking location on rim of caldera, in clear weather. Very bleak in cloud and rain.

Poor lighting in room, esp over beds. Long, deep room with relatively narrow window at far end, so dark and gloomy. No milk, and mean supplies in tea trays in room; nowhere nearby to buy milk, and said the would charge for using fridge in room. Inadequate storage space in room , including no full or dress length hanging space .Nowhere warm, welcoming and comfortable to relax, read, etc, such as lounge or bar. Cavernous, huge , empty dining room. Whole place was soulless and gloomy. Swimming pool disappointing - half of it too shallow to swim, and closed early evening. Xtra charge for steam room. Ghastly tourist shop adjoining hotel. The whole complex seemed designed more for coach-loads of day trippers than for spa hotel residents. Breakfast mediocre - unappetising cheap processed bacon, congealed tepid eggs, plus a severe, unpleasant and unnecessary 'don't you dare' notice that youll be charged if you're caught taking any food out ( such as a roll or apple; no healthy or good quality cereal. Restaurant food was quite good, but some portions far too large - easily enough for 2. Location scenically stunning in fine weather, but isolated - youre stuck with the hotel restaurant and limited alternatives not very nearby, or face a long haul up from Funchal.

Disappointing

Disappointing stay at 4* Spa Hotel

It's worth noting that one positive aspect was the comfort of the beds. Despite the other disappointments, the comfort of the beds provided a positive and restful aspect to the stay.

I had a rather disappointing stay at this hotel. Despite advertising itself as a 4-star spa hotel, it felt more like a subpar experience. The numerous additional charges for amenities, such as the sauna (10 per person), billiards (5 per hour), and even swimming cap (mandatory by their rule) and slippers (5), left a negative impression. The restricted swimming pool hours (10am-7pm) were inconvenient, especially after a day of hiking. Moreover, the lack of sockets near the bed and the underwhelming breakfast with powdered juices and coffee added to the overall dissatisfaction. The hotel's claim of being a 4-star establishment doesn't align with the actual experience, and the rates seem more fitting for a 3-star accommodation. Unfortunately, it was not a pleasant stay, and there's room for improvement in various aspects.

Amazing breakfast with the breathtaking view. The room is nice with a balcony. Towels were changed every day during cleaning. The pool and jacuzzi are free. The sauna is acceptable for a small charge (5 euro). Also I mentioned that Icome for my bday and a bottle of champagne was waiting me in the room, it was super nice! The staff are incredible kind and profeccional!

Unbeatable views for quiet relaxation

The view! The view cannot be beaten. We had a superior room which was spacious with a big balcony/terrace. Room was spotlessly clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast OK if a little limited. Great location if you are planning on doing the walk down to nuns valley (which I would recommend)

Hotel a bit dated and lacked atmosphere. It's also remote and as we had no car, our only option was to eat at the hotel as there are no other options within reasonable walking distance in the evening . Food in the restaurant was meh, nothing special and a little too expensive for what it was. Limited plug sockets in room. We stayed 2 nights and that was enough for us to explore the area

Amazing views and a good staff but the rooms and restaurant could be much better.

Great views and friendly staff

The restaurant food was not very good but still quite expensive. There was no air conditioning or fans in the rooms and the walls were quite thin. We could hear our neighbors celebrating most nights.

Very good

The view was great, it was just really nice to look out the windows and see the mountains close by. The hotel is in a pretty nice area with not much around which was a plus for me. Breakfast was good. The price was great for what it offered. I would definitely recommend staying here for a night or two if you want a bit more of a quiet place. Just know that there's not much to do around.

They had a wedding reception in the evening which was a bit loud for a while. There's not much else around in term of restaurants so you either have to drive for a while or you can eat dinner in the hotel's restaurant.

Very good

- Amazing location with unbelievable view of the mountains - The room was comfy and also has a balcony where you can rest and enjoy the view - Jaccuzi and swimming pool - Amazing crew, so kind and open to help with anything

- I am disappointed with the gym.. If there is a gym, it should have some weights or basic machines. This gym has just rotoped or running machine - If you want to use sauna, you need to book it for 10/person extra..
